Of the 1st team defense that played... woof.

Neal is your 3rd down back but Crockett and Harris both have the look. I hope we can stash one on the practice squad.

Pennel/Elliot continue to flash.

Hundley will be great trade bait down the road. Impressive performance.

Great route by Pinkard on that TD.

Abby looked solid on PRs. I'm betting they keep 6 WRs.

Saw a clip on FB of coach saying something along the lines of beating Chicago's ass.... anybody else see that? Was it legit?

So odd. Someone asked me about it on Twitter as well. No idea. Can't find it on Twitter or Google anywhere. I hope he did say it. That would be awesome.

The thing that stands out to me most, and I’ll explain why it isn’t Brett Hundley, is the outstanding development of the young wide receivers. Now, they have not been the biggest thing in the preseason, but in my mind they are easily the most important one.

When Nelson went down, I felt a cold shiver go down my spine. Losing him wasn’t the end of the season, but man I seriously felt like we lost our juggernaut status. Nelson, in addition to everything else good about the team, made me feel like we had the edge over the Seahacks for sure! Without him? Man, on paper it’s just not the same anymore! We could still win, but now the Packers have to seriously duke it out which mean the Seahacks have just as much a chance to take us out as we do them.

However, if these young wide receivers actually start playing as well as they have in the preseason, or really even half as good, then the Packers might just have dominant passing game again. The Seahacks can still possibly shut down the Packers, but now they’ll have to work real hard for it, just like they would had Nelson still been healthy.

Hundley is easily the biggest story this preseason, he’s proven that he’s more than worthy to be a backup, in fact he may have proven he’s worthy to be the No. 2 QB in front of Tolzien. This guy (or Tolzien) could become tasty delicious trade bait! But as everyone knows, he’s not nearly needed as badly as some other positions on the team.

It may be just me, but the play of these receivers really helped nullify the gloom hanging over me because of what happened to Nelson. The Packers, may, just may, still be the juggernaut of the NFL.

Can’t wait for the season opener to find out! GO PACK GO!!!

I said this in a comment right after Nelson went down. It sucked, but I wasn't too concerned w/ the Passing game, since Rodgers is still the trigger man. He will do what he has always done and make the WR better. Some bumps early in the season maybe, but the WR behind Cobb and Adams will be rotated and put in positions they can succeed in, especially early in the season. As the season goes on more and more will be expected and gotten from them. They will all develop a lot as the season moves into Nov/Dec. By seasons end the passing game will be very good to great again. Obviously it would be stronger w/ Nelson, but his absence is opportunity and necessity for the WR down the depth chart.

I agree about Hundley he's been excellent the past couple preseason games. However, lets temper it a bit as it is preseason and the other teams weren't game planning either. But Hundley has shown much more pocket awareness and passing ability than I expected. Its nice he's a good athlete and all, but he has to be able to win from the pocket in the NFL and he looks like he's able to do that so far, even tho it is preseason. Almost to the point that Tolzien is expendable, but not there yet and the Packers won't take that chance. Tolzien will be let go in FA and the Packers will get a late rd compensatory pick. His trade value is negligible. Hundley's would be much higher but the Packers won't trade him till probably yr 3 or later.

Excellent punting tonight. Long 52, 43 yard average with 2 inside the 20. The one late at the eight lead to a score.

My gut reaction is that Scott Tolzien has erased the doubts I had coming in to camp that he was ready to be the backup QB.

And he may be 3rd string anyways.

Reminds me of the heyday of the Wolf Era when Favre was backed up by a steady stream of guys that ended up getting starting shots elsewhere.

I thought Ty M would be the steal of the draft but it now looks like Hundley. This draft could go down as the best ever by TT. Still early but promising.

Having three quarterbacks and two fullbacks on a 53-man roster is a luxury. Personally, I would like only one FB and have four RBs. I'd like to see the Packers primarily rotate three RBS for the first half of the season and then bring out a fresh Eddie Lacy for the last half and the playoffs. When all the other teams have their defense worn down, Lacy should be used to beat the hell out of them carrying us to another Lombardi Trophy.

Can't do that. In MM's mind you run Lacy left run Lacy right, run him high run him low, run him till he drops then let someone else carry the ball once.
I love fresh backs and variable backs:> big bulls, and fast monkeys. Keeps the defense guessing.
Everybody but Starks look the same. Where is the accleration and speed. Kuhn should be gone but is an MM favorite pet so he will stay.

The thing about keeping these two specific FBs is that it gives them more versatility on offense. That's a good thing.

Ripakowski is a straight-up hammer. He's better than Kuhn in short-yardage and 4 minute offense. He has a well-defined pathway to making a valuable contribution in specific situations.

Kuhn is more a hybrid FB/RB in the Mike Alstott mold. He's fabulous in pass protection. He can run it a little and catch it a lot. Lacy is a better option as one back but Kuhn would be my second choice for one back, especially in pass mode, which the Packers are almost always in.

Both can play STs, which is a requirement for guys near the bottom of the roster.

A 4th RB is likely to only contribute in the event of multiple injuries. Kuhn and Ripakowski can both contribute without injuries in front of them. I'd rather stash that 4th RB on the PS and promote as necessary.

I'm thinking about making "Hundleymania. Catch it." into a chillax-style mantra that I put in every comments section. Thoughts?

Keep Hundley, not Tolzien. And keep Ripkowski, Rajion Neal and Crockett, along with Lacy and Starks.

Tolzien seems hesitant, nervous and unsure of himself while Hundley has poise, is not afraid to throw deep and makes good decision when to run.

Hundley looked very good. He still has some touch and accuracy issues and I didn't see him complete any long passes (20 yards or more down the field).

I liked what I saw from Abby, but I didn't see him pass Janis or White. Barring being the 6th WR (which I tend to doubt), I am thinking he goes to the PS. I had Pinkard on the PS though, and I don't think I can find room for 2 WRs on the PS. Back-up O-line looked better. Keep 9?

I only see 2 NFL worthy TEs. Probably keep a 3rd, but I would put 2 TEs on the PS and go with 2 on the 53. Rodgers has not improved as a blocker, Backman missed a few (all of his?) blocks against NO, and Quarless is at best an average blocker.

Raijon looks like the RB who can best contribute this year. (Was that his 2nd fumble?) I like Harris the most as a runner. Some suggest cutting Starks. I think Kuhn makes it and Rip makes it as a ST ace.

Gaston and Ringo did good things out there. Guion played well into the 2nd half. Elliott flashed. Maybe Thomas sticks as a coverage dime ILB, like Chillar. Not sold on Palmer, but it looks like CM3, Barrington, Ryan and Palmer at ILB, and Peppers, Neal, Perry, Mulumba and Elliott at OLB. If we keep 10 LBs, Vaughters flashes, Bradford has improved, and maybe the aforementioned Joe Thomas fighting for that spot. The top 9 DBs are set. Banjo has a chance to be the 10th if 10 are kept.

My only concern about Abby going to the PS is he would most certainly get snatched from a team like Carolina who's starved for WR's. It would be Charles Johnson all over again. I would rather take a chance on keeping Abby despite the minimal playing time.

Maybe Tolz is better when he knows a Hundley train isn't about to run him over.

I think the PS is the best place for Abbrederis.

That being said don't be surprised if he would make the 53 over White. While White had more production, he still has made mistakes and he really isn't going to get a lot better then what he is now.
Abbrederis does offer more on special teams, and has a higher upside.

The biggest thing to remember is Thompson doesn't always go with what the popular opinion is. Like last year. We all saw Rolle was better then Goodson, But he ended up keeping Goodson over Rolle.

I think with the amount of time that Abbrederis has missed that starting out on the practice squad will be a better place for him, but I wont be surprised if he were to make the 53.
