Gut Reactions: NFC Championship

Aaron's Gut Reactions from the Packers' victory in the NFC Championship over the Chicago Bears.

  • Dallas. Texas. Super Bowl.
  • I did not cheer once - but I did have to run out of the press area when Raji scored.
  • Tim Masthay, and the special teams overall, were just unbelievable today.
  • Loved McCarthy's opening script. His use of playaction to open up the area in front of the safeties was great.
  • Of course, as usual, once the script was done, Lovie seemed to get the better of Mike.
  • Aaron Rodgers did not have his best day after his hot start.
  • And yes, after the shot to the head he took from Peppers he was absolutely lost throwing the football. Just did not look right at all.
  • Major props to T.J. Lang who played some huge snaps after Clifton went out. He was shaky the first drive and impressively solid on the second.
  • James Starks knocked Lance Briggs silly in the first quarter. That kid is a keeper. Runs hard, has great vision and doesn't shy away from contact at all.
  • All that said - beyond dumb play running out of bounds there in the 4th quarter.
  • B.J. Raji is a nose guard, a fullback and a cornerback. He can do it all.
  • Sam. Shields.
  • Looking forward to the Super Bowl - Rodgers and this offense on the carpet in Dallas will be a handful for whoever they face.
  • Say it with me - the Packers are going to the Super Bowl!!!!

Yahoo! I just hope the Packers are the underdogs to the Steelers (or, if miracles happen, Jets). One more game to a championship for Charles, Donald, Chad, Mark, Ryan...

Abso-freakin'-lutely they do. Ken Ruettgers even got one after retiring midway through the '96 season (although initially he wasn't going to get one)...

Don't think he retired, his body just broke down and he couldn't do it anymore. I think they just IR'd him. Anyway, he did initially play, so he did contribute to the season.
Even Justin Harrell contributed to the season, even if it was just for a few plays. Grant too.

A-rod made the biggest play of his career, the Urlacher INT.

A-rod chased him across the field and made one hell of a diving hand tackle to save the pick 6.

Thats determination and playing all 60 minutes. very impressive

The packers have to be one of the luckiest teams to make it to the superbowl, ever. But their luck has just run out.

They barely beat a team with a third string qb...and rodgers played like shit today. Two picks and they still win? Total luck they were playing the bears.

I just have one question, hypocrites. What are you hosers going to do when arodge throws the game ending pick in the superbowl as the Steelers are kicking your asses on the way to another championship season....???

They'll say the sky is green if they have to, never own up to their mistakes, and convince themselves of whatever they like. They spew garbage in hopes of making people's days just a little worse. Nothing will stop him - it frankly doesn't matter if the Packers win the super bowl or not in two weeks - Pack66 will pop in and out like a coward behind his computer screen, and do what he do.

Lucky?? I don't think so. Cutler is (was) overrated to begin with (what a pussy). Tom (Todd) Collins should never have been #2 QB and what did Mr. Hanie have to lose? The Packers came out of the shoot like they were playing to win. The Bears came out playing trying to catch-up the entire game. I will admit that the Bears "finially" made a game of it with Hanie in the 4th quarter but not close to enough to take the game away from the Pack. I have to agree that after Rodgers took that nasty (and should be fined helmut to helmut) hit he wasn't the same.

Sam Shields - you earned your keep!!! Raji - you made my year.

Pack66, you must not have gotten the memo..
That's not Aaron Rodgers you're talking about. The QB you're talking about who throws season-ending INTs was traded to the Jets in 2008 and has since retired from football.

I also guess that your reply to this could be like "Oh but arodge was lucky that he didn't face the Jets' D# - then he would have thrown 18 picks. And Roethlisberger would have had perfect rating against that shitty Bears D#!!!"

Honestly - and I'm being completely serious - I don't doubt Pack66 is a fine guy. He's just gotten so caught up in all this, whatever his angle is. Maybe it was the Favre situation. Maybe he's been a lifelong Vikings fan. Or, maybe he's just anti-TT. The hatred has consumed him. I appreciate that his posts aren't taken down like some other sites would do. But I honestly pray that regardless of the outcome of some football games coming up, he finds peace.

So, so, so awesome. Hope there's no concussion on Rodgers; that hit was scary. At least there were no other injuries to speak of, and hell with a 2-week layoff we might even get another Zombo sighting.

So I like GB's chances against PIT. I was going back and forth all AFCC game over who I'd rather see -- seems to me that the Packer O matches up better with the Steeler D, what with the heavier emphasis on run stopping and thinner CB roster relative to the Jets. I guess we'll see.

Can't help but wonder if this is enough to get people to chill out with the "Fire MM/TT they'll never take us all the way!!!" stuff for awhile. Winning the SB in a couple weeks would be absolutely amazing, and like I said I like our boys' chances. But the worst case scenario here has GB as the 2nd best team in football, and that's hardly something over which to hang your head -- or call for the coach's.

I'm guessing even if Rodgers had more than a bell ringer, we'll never hear boo about it. With one game on the line, no sense giving any emotional ammo to Harrison and any other head hunters. I swear, once Rodgers sustained his second concussion of the year, like or not, he not only became the poster child for NFL head injuries but it also drew a giant bullseye on his back.

Case in point Julius Peppers. (Would love Nagler's take on that hit.) Sure as heck looked like he was gunning to knock Rodgers out of the game from where I was sitting.

Packers will know what to do with Rashard Mendenhall based on the school they went to with Turner.

Roethlisberger should not be able to get out of the pocket on the Pack but a DB will not be able to bring him down by himself.

We have a big mismatch with our secondary over their receivers if Collins can make sure he keeps Wallace in front of him. Over last few weeks, have found Peprah in coverage.

Gonna be REAL TOUGH to run against the Steelers. The Bares gave up seams, cutbacks and could be run over at times. The Jets couldn't find no a seam or run over anyone no matter what play they ran. And they are a very good running team. AR12 is going to have to light up the Dallas night.

Hey, we finally have a special teams advantage!

Not sure the Turner tape translates to Mendenhall. RM doesn't have the kind of lower-body strength of Turner (not that many do) but he's significantly faster and much more likely to take a run outside.

As for the Steeler run D, it sounds like you're talking mostly about the first half. Had the Jets run as well all game as they did in the 3rd & 4th qtrs. the Pack would be preparing for NY.

As one of the bigger James Starks fan boys I was very happy to see him get his 1st NFL TD. The first of many to come. 74 yards on 22 carries, not bad vs a very good Bears run defense. He started off real hot, and then the Bears contained him more in the second half.

Loved it, loved it, LOVED IT! So freaking proud of those boys that have stepped up all season. Zombo, Walden, Matshay, Shields, undrafted free agents just hoping to make the team and contributed tenfold. Nobody's been perfect every game this season, but as a team, a TEAM, they held it together and got the job done. When so many gave up on our boys, they never gave up on themselves, played like champions all season, and are rewarded with a chance to bring the Lombardi Trophy home. GO, PACK, GO!!!!
