Gut Reactions: 2013 Week 14
Aaron's gut reactions from the Packers' win over the Falcons.
By PackerAaron
- Jarrett Muthlovin Bush.
- I love watching Eddie Lacy play football.
- I suspected Flynn would play better at home, mostly because he'd be able to control the tempo much more than he could in Detroit. You still saw his weaknesses (he has to either speed up out of playaction when that slot blitz is coming or check to another play altogether at the line) but he threw the ball with some authority.
- No, seriously. Jarrett Bush broke up a 4th down pass intended for the best tight end to ever play the game. For real. I saw it.
- What exactly was Mike trying to prove running Lacy with barely any time left in the first half? That's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen him do.
- I Tweeted earlier this week that, when going back and watching the coaches film of the debacle in Detroit, it was clear that Andrew Quarless was able to get open. Glad Flynn found him today.
- Clay Matthews was absolutely invisible today. Against a terrible Falcons' o-line.
- Credit to the defense. They stepped up in the second half.
- Finally got M.D. Jennings out of there for Richardson. Will be interesting to watch the tape on Richardson, but he seemed to play well.
- Morgan Burnett, however, had another horrible game.
- It would have been very, very easy for this team to pack it in at halftime. The fact they fought through and came back is a testament to their character. And to how bad the Falcons are.
- No, SERIOUSLY guys. Jarrett Bush made the victory-sealing interception. Behind a three man rush. I saw it with my own eyes!
- Speaking of three man rushes, I think I know why Dom went with so many today. That Falcons' o-line has been atrocious all year. It most certainly was against the Bills. Dom seemed to want his edge guys to get home and to be content to play coverage. It worked ok, especially on the plays Perry was able to around the edge. It's interesting that later, when Capers started blitzing, the Falcons had a bit more success.
- Johnny Jolly had his best game in a month. Hope he's not hurt too bad.
- Don't discount Mason Crosby's performance today. The Packers' cold-weather kicker was the difference in the game.
- The tackles struggled a bit on obvious passing downs, and Flynn held the ball too long a few times, but for the most part the Packers' offensive line did a good job against an admittedly less than stellar Falcons defensive front.
- Hawk was livid after the Falcons' failed screen toward the end of the game, and he had reason to be after a late dive at his knee by a Falcons' offensive linemen. That's the kind of cheap ass crap Raji talked about a few years ago that the Falcons' line is (in)famous for.
- The Packers are a half game out of first place. You can keep your "The Lions' schedule is so easy..." blah blah nonsense. The Lions lost to Tampa Bay. At home. Anything could happen.
- That said, I know lots of people will be expecting Rodgers to be cleared to play next week. I tend to think he's one more week away. I hope I'm wrong.
- Go Pack Go.

We are making the playoffs!
December 08, 2013 at 04:10 pm
It's going to come down to the final week when we play the Bears and the Lions travel to the vikes.
December 08, 2013 at 05:19 pm
I'm as excited as anyone, but the Packers are going to have to grow up and suddenly improve in a HUGE way if they're going to beat Dallas in Dallas without the services of Rodgers.
December 08, 2013 at 07:13 pm
No mention of Lacy?
Sure, had a couple break downs in blocking in the back field, Hes a rook, But he plays with alot of heart--Rookie running back of the year!
December 08, 2013 at 07:16 pm
Whoops, missed it, yeah, love watching Lacy play football also!
December 09, 2013 at 06:07 pm
Matt, I would be shocked if this team makes the playoffs in the next three seasons. This year is out, next the Bears, LIons and Vikes all fix those couple of holes with talent, and the Pack has to get rid of a lot of deadwood and start to draft talent, who will costs us money.
Mathews is grossly overpaid and Rogers is worth the money but between the two of them its 66% of the salary cap.
December 08, 2013 at 04:08 pm
Wow did we get lucky with the number of dropped passes the Falcons had.
Lacy is makes our passing game possible.
I'd forgotten just how weak Flynn's arm is. Thank goodness he was accurate today.
More breaks went our way then they did for the Falcons.
On to Dallas.
December 08, 2013 at 04:13 pm
"More breaks went our way then they did for the Falcons."
Yeah, except for that one bounce that went of that guys foot and landed in the arms of the falcon's linebacker and resulted in a 10+ point swing
December 08, 2013 at 06:44 pm
That certainly was a break that went the Falcon's way. I didn't say "all" of the breaks went our way, just more of them. Those Falcon's receivers must've soaked their hands in ice water during halftime.
December 08, 2013 at 04:16 pm
I don't know, that INT for TD was incredibly unlucky.
December 08, 2013 at 04:19 pm
Exactly. What a fluke play. Should have been 14-13 at halftime.
PackerAaron
December 08, 2013 at 04:25 pm
His arm is indeed weak, but he made a few throws to the far hash that really surprised me. Those have always been a problem for him.
December 08, 2013 at 07:25 pm
I think Flynn needs to move out of pocket more, small like Wilson in Seattle.
But Wilson has a stronger arm for sure.
December 08, 2013 at 05:45 pm
The two dropped passes on that last drive were on purpose IMO.
Falcons were playing for a draft pick.
December 08, 2013 at 07:31 pm
Gonzalas dropping a ball on purpose, not an option!
December 08, 2013 at 04:11 pm
I told you all!! I said the Packers would win and they did!! This team will be in the super bowl I guarantee it!!
Longshanks
December 08, 2013 at 04:29 pm
the super bowl??? this year?
December 08, 2013 at 04:32 pm
Yes!! this year!! Rodgers gets back, they win out and we all know Detroit is tanking. Green Bay rolls from this point forward!!
Longshanks
December 08, 2013 at 05:58 pm
i'll have a little of whatever you're smoking ;)
December 08, 2013 at 06:24 pm
Lay off the bottle!
December 08, 2013 at 04:30 pm
Ur a funny guy!

Hey Pointed Pecker, how does it feel to be wrong AGAIN about Matt Flynn. Nice call you putz!!
Longshanks
December 08, 2013 at 07:15 pm
a win is nice but gotta step it up against Romo and Dallas or he will shred our soft playing secondary...and if Rodgers cant go again.....oh well, gotta enjoy this for now...
December 08, 2013 at 11:03 pm
Super Bowl?
umm, no.
There's 2 teams from the NFC South and another 2 from the NFC West that would likely beat our brains in if we were fortunate enough to get to the post season.
We beat a 3-10 team today. Barely.
December 08, 2013 at 04:18 pm
Funny 1 win outa this stretch may be enough. Thanks to the Lions. Its never over till its over. Rodgers will be back. MM coached team is now 15-2 in December.
December 08, 2013 at 04:23 pm
Agreed on all points except for Matthews, I saw him get pressure on a number of plays and force an early throw or scramble; he was also double-teamed most of the game for as you mentioned, they were rushing 3 or 4 often.
December 08, 2013 at 05:38 pm
Dang Aaron, what's your problem with CM? He held his own today, others stepped up with big plays. That's kind of the way it's supposed to work.
December 09, 2013 at 08:07 am
CM is the star player on defense. Not getting home against one of the worst OTs in the NFL on one of the worst OLs despite not being double teamed is simply not good enough. He is a good player but invisible at times. I could make the case that Neal and Perry, when healthy, had bigger impacts this season than CM. He simply does not play up to his contract.
December 08, 2013 at 04:23 pm
Wooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!
December 08, 2013 at 04:27 pm
Where are all the comments applauding MM's playcalls that brought us back in the third quarter? And on that sweet 90 yard drive to start the game?
December 08, 2013 at 04:32 pm
he called a very good game today, but i'm with nagler. with 15 seconds left in the first half they should've taken a knee. a matt flynn-led offense isn't going to do anything with that kind of field position and 15 seconds.
December 08, 2013 at 04:53 pm
Yes I wondered about that too.
But still, it seems like playcalling is something that always gets complained about but never applauded. It just seems like a dumb thing to do:
Dumb: "Gosh, that play didn't work!"
Dumber: "i know! They shoulda called a different one!"
Dumb: "You are a football genius!"
December 08, 2013 at 05:02 pm
they are lucky that fscreen pass attempt at the end of the half didn't go for a pick 6 too...but give credit to them in the second half...and how about those Eagles!
December 08, 2013 at 05:10 pm
Kind of funny how it was the Eagles the last time that saved our post season hopes.
December 08, 2013 at 05:09 pm
Much better play calling, giving Flynn a more WCO look, better suited to his capabilities. There's also probably less commenting on that due to fewer if us getting to watch it. The play calling in the final possession was utterly predictable and vanilla. Perfect time to dial up an un-scouted look, or at least mildly more creative calls. McCarthy seems to feel that he should be able to beat teams physically, one-on-one. Smart coaches see that they can create better matchup opportunities using mis-direction and subterfuge. MM is like a pitcher that expects to win on three fastballs in a row, and never throws a change up.
December 08, 2013 at 05:18 pm
MM knows a helluva lot more about football than any of us do.
December 08, 2013 at 05:40 pm
No, McCarthy never calls a fake field goal/punt, or onsides kick.
December 08, 2013 at 07:13 pm
yeah...and he never calls the fumblerooski, the triple reverse, the statue of liberty, the hidden ball, the flea flicker, or the Discroll Middle School trick play....I mean really. That last one is open all game...every game.
December 08, 2013 at 09:45 pm
Mike is essentially playing "strike team" football. When you're on your 5th string offensive lineman, it might be adviseable to help them out a little bit.
Nice to see guys like Quarless and Boykin step up, but they don't necessarily match up man on man as well as Cobb and Finley.
Give them a little bit of a freakin edge, Mike.
December 08, 2013 at 04:29 pm
Aaron Nagler, you had a lotta damn gut reactions today!
And I'm right there with ya. There were no guts (or gut reactions) associated with the GBP for the last month.
For a long time I've been negative at McC for the fact that he's all X's and O's and doesn't have much of an emotional/karmic/unspoken/intangible clue of what's going on with his team.
For a majority of today's game, I certain this was the case. But this team FINALLY sucked it up and won a game on emotion (etc.)
I put 2 comments on the Live blog in the 2nd half today. The first was "Did Jarret Bush just save our season?" and the 2nd was "Did Jarret Bush just save our season...again?"
December 08, 2013 at 06:04 pm
Emotion is vastly overrated as a reason for winning or losing. Professional football games are won by superior preparation, execution, and exploiting mismatches. Highly charged emotions hurt preparation and execution, you can't think properly in such a state. You want a HC that keeps an even keel.
December 08, 2013 at 06:29 pm
Overrated or not, it is my considered opinion that this team has shown jack shit for emotion during the last month, yet they managed to show quite a bit today. Finally.
Thanks for letting me know exactly why professional football games are won and lost.
And thanks for telling me what kind of head coach I want, too.
'preciate that.
December 08, 2013 at 06:38 pm
If your smart you WANT McCarthy to continue to be the HC and Thompson the GM for as long as they want to stay! But then smart has never been anything you've shown since commenting.
December 09, 2013 at 05:24 am
Stroh -
That should read "If YOU'RE smart...".
No big deal.
We all know what you meant.
December 08, 2013 at 06:52 pm
I wasn't attacking you personally Ruppert, I was responding to a comment that mentioned emotion. The "you" was a generic you, but since the individual you decided to take it to a personal level, I'll say that I guess you're not smart enough to figure that out.
December 08, 2013 at 06:57 pm
Really?
December 08, 2013 at 07:18 pm
haha, yah that guy sounds like what i would imagine Capers to sound like.."its all about superior preparation"...
December 08, 2013 at 11:41 pm
If Capers really says that the results don't show it.
December 08, 2013 at 08:18 pm
What about the "Annexation of Puerto Rico"? Classic.
December 08, 2013 at 04:30 pm
The team showed some heart today. Still could win the division. Man.. what a terrible division.
IMO we win the NFCN and get owned at home in the 1st round of the playoffs. The offense has plenty of excuses, but this defense is just... not.. good..
December 08, 2013 at 04:36 pm
i was just saying thank god we're in a crappy division and we're playing a bad team today! i think we'll be in decent shape if we get rodgers back next week although i'm thinking that he'll be back for the steelers game at the earliest. he was just scanned last week and i can't see them scanning him again so soon. you never want to undergo that many CT scans
December 08, 2013 at 04:39 pm
He's playin, book it.
December 08, 2013 at 06:33 pm
Screw that... I don't care if they have to scan him 2x's a week. He's getting paid 20M a year and your worried about getting too many cat scans? Comon man!
December 09, 2013 at 10:49 am
i'm not worried, he is. if you would listen to his radio show each week you would know that. and it's "YOU'RE"
December 08, 2013 at 04:56 pm
Honestly. The defense IMO is what kept us in the game today. They really only gave up 7 points that was on them. The offense turned over the ball inside the 25 which resulted in a TD. Yeah would have been nice to have held them to 3 there, but at the same time, the offense can't put the defense in that kind of hole.
The other td came on an interception return for a TD.
Today the defense, while not perfect, stepped up a quite a bit. The weather I would say helped them with the Falcons dropping passes, but when needed the defense made plays.
December 08, 2013 at 04:58 pm
Hey... Did you notice in the 2nd half the D shut down Atl? The D gets some if not a lot of credit for getting together and shutting down ATL after half. And take away points off turnovers and ATL didn't do squat. That doesn't make the Packers D good, yet... But its a damn good step in the right direction!
December 08, 2013 at 05:17 pm
I agree.. 14 points off of turnovers. 14 points basically on the offense.
December 08, 2013 at 06:09 pm
Yes I did notice, and GB needs the D to step up big time as the season continues. Encouraging.
December 08, 2013 at 07:19 pm
really big time needed in Dallas...or Romo will shred them....
December 08, 2013 at 04:32 pm
Why not play Banjo & Richardson instead of Burnett & Jennings?
December 08, 2013 at 05:46 pm
I thought Richardson looked solid.
Might be the starter going forward.
December 08, 2013 at 06:31 pm
If Richardson can hold up in coverage he can be an excellent Safety. He's good in run support and has elite athleticism for a Safety. He just lacks instincts and experience in coverage.
December 08, 2013 at 04:38 pm
How much do you drink before you write this stuff. Dam man, it's early yet too. Take it easy.
December 08, 2013 at 04:46 pm
Nagler reminds me of Barfly. lol
Longshanks
December 08, 2013 at 07:02 pm
You remind me of my racist, sexist no nothing alcoholic uncle.
December 08, 2013 at 04:41 pm
Overall, this has been the most painful year for a fan since '05. I think all Pack fans would unilaterally agree on that.
Yet here we are, a HALF a game out of first with 3 left, and hopefully we'll get #12 back this week. I'm old enough to remember a time when being a half a game out of first with 3 left when your starter is coming back would be cause for week-long drunks as every UW satellite campus. Crazy year. Crazy.
December 08, 2013 at 05:01 pm
Which campus were you on? I was at a couple of em
December 08, 2013 at 07:15 pm
I distinctly recall a Chuck Cecil fan club poster hanging at one of the UW-L dorms from 89-91 or so. I lived in Laux and Hutch for a year each, but you don't forget a Chuck Cecil Fan Club poster.
December 08, 2013 at 09:48 pm
I lived in Hutch Hall I think '88-91. lol
Third floor iirc. A cube, the other two were female.
December 08, 2013 at 10:03 pm
Those are nice but Sanford Hall was the best hall on campus. At least when I was there to make it that way.
December 09, 2013 at 05:27 am
Coate for me.
December 09, 2013 at 05:52 am
I lived in Hutch 3rd floor in 90-91. In the corner room by Eddie from Iron Maiden and the smiley face on the wall. 304, I believe. My roommate used to put his cigarettes out on the smiley face's forehead.
December 09, 2013 at 07:06 am
LOL Not sure what year I moved out of Hutch. Might have still been there in 90. I think my room was 311.
December 09, 2013 at 10:22 am
Sanford for me. And yes, it was the best dorm on campus.
December 09, 2013 at 08:07 pm
Sanford, first floor, 86-87. Hall director was
M Baynes.
December 08, 2013 at 04:49 pm
Also ...Perry collapsed the pocket at least a couple times that I saw. He's as strong or stronger than Clay. After a good draft our D will be damn good next year.
December 08, 2013 at 04:54 pm
No, no more next year. I am sick of hearing that. We have this year damnit!! We will win out and win this entire thing mark my words!!
Our defense is back baby!!
Longshanks
December 08, 2013 at 05:02 pm
IF Rodgers is back for next week, we have a legit chance to make the playoffs!
December 08, 2013 at 04:57 pm
Got to the QB from LOLB
December 08, 2013 at 05:02 pm
first time this year if I am thinking right.
December 08, 2013 at 06:01 pm
Plenty of talent on D to be good if they're reasonably healthy! Not gonna draft DL after using high picks there the past 2 drafts. Maybe a safety high, but if Richardson plays well they don't need to go there. No good ILB in this draft worth a high pick. Maybe CB tho I'm not big on any of the CB in this draft either.
Perry another year at OLB, Neal another year at LB, Datone and Worhty on DL. The D will be good next year, especially so if they get a new DC.
December 08, 2013 at 06:17 pm
Perry has made plays a lot this year. Can't wait to see a full year from him (hopefully). Of course, to the Cows of the world, he's a bust, playing out of position, you can't convert a college DL to a pro OLB (although that happens all the time), the usual drivel. Perry being a good player doesn't fit the TT haters mindset.
December 08, 2013 at 07:22 pm
So you think he's the best thing since sliced bread?? CM3 gets a constant double team cuz Perry and the rest of the "forever developing" players have yet to make a major impact...thats my take on it...i suppose you like Brad jones too...
December 08, 2013 at 11:30 pm
CM3 is double teamed for a myriad of reasons, many of which involve him being an elite player. Perry has made several impact plays this year. He holds the edge against the run and gets occasional pressure on the QB. He can be criticized for being injured, if you consider that valid criticism.
My opinion of Brad Jones is irrelevant to my opinion of Perry. However, since you asked, I'm sure Jones is a fine person, but I'd prefer an upgrade from his ILB play. I do like sliced bread though.
December 09, 2013 at 02:12 am
didn't think CM3 drew hardly any double teams. It looked like one dude blocking him was plenty
Evan
December 08, 2013 at 04:53 pm
Have to think Richardson gets the start next week, at the very least.
December 08, 2013 at 04:58 pm
Definitely.
December 08, 2013 at 04:58 pm
completely agree.. I will have to go back and watch again, but it seemed like the defense had a little more attitude when he went in. I remember a particular play to that Hyde looked lost on who he was supposed to cover, and Richardson got him in the right place.
I expect Richardson to start.
December 08, 2013 at 05:11 pm
As long as Richardson is good in coverage the Packers don't need to draft a starting Safety. Richardson is a GREAT athlete, just doesn't have instincts or experience in coverage. Little early to say for sure, but if he keeps playing well they can go another direction in the top of the draft.
December 08, 2013 at 05:15 pm
I agree. That is another reason why I would start him as well.. If he is a starting caliber safety, then we don't have to draft one as high.
Was it me or did Dom seem to dial up a few more blitzes after Richardson played more? I am just going off of memory, but it seems like to me that he started blitzing more after Richardson was in there.
If so, that would tell me that he trusts him in coverage.
December 08, 2013 at 06:26 pm
Richardson can't be a good player, he's a UDFA. Just TT being cheap. The haters have conclusively proved that all 5-7 rounders and UDFA players are from small schools and more susceptible to injury. Haven't we learned anything from the Cows?
December 08, 2013 at 07:59 pm
Is MD Jennings an UDFA?
How has that worked out the past 2 years?
December 08, 2013 at 05:42 pm
Richardson is definitely an upgrade. They are much more physical with him in there. We need to see more of him and less of the good Doctor.
Longshanks
December 08, 2013 at 06:38 pm
Yeah, I agree. I think they officially made the switch from Jennings to Richardson in the 2nd half. I don't remember seeing Jennings in there at all in the 4th quarter.
December 08, 2013 at 07:15 pm
"As long as Richardson is good in coverage the Packers don’t need to draft a starting Safety"
i totally disagree. if richardson is good then it means that the packers have 1 good safety. burnett is mediocre at best, jennings is almost as bad as mc millian, and banjo is just a guy/good backup. we definitely need a strong, playmaker at the safety position
December 08, 2013 at 07:31 pm
At this point, anybody but MD Jennings is an upgrade.
December 08, 2013 at 08:33 pm
Just my opinion, but I'm pretty sure Ted Thompson knows we need upgrades at safety. The whole world knows that.
Thompson can only fill so many holes each year in the draft. Next year, I expect him to fill the safety and ILB hole. The Packers need a stud at safety.
We only get so many round 1-2 draft picks. And then you hope for a bingo in the later rounds. McMillian wasn't a late round bingo.
Evan
December 08, 2013 at 08:47 pm
That's a bingo!
December 09, 2013 at 12:06 am
Burnett has been disappointing, but he was much better last year, so there have to be reasons other than his talent level. These reasons could include: Missing several games at the season's start; the loss of Hayward, who helped cover the Doctor's and McMillian's deficiencies; CM3's and Perry's absences required Burnett to be increasingly involved in run support; and Capers seeming inability to keep the secondary on the same page.
December 09, 2013 at 08:44 pm
Inglorious Basterds, Evan?
(That's a bingo!)
Evan
December 09, 2013 at 09:24 pm
You just say bingo.
(yep)
December 08, 2013 at 04:54 pm
Flynn played well enough. Didn't expect it, but give him credit. Still stands in the same spot in the pocket too much, but made some nice throws also.
D won this game in the second-half. Still bended too much at the end but made a few plays to seal the deal.
If anyone things GB is soft, consider Lacy. He alone brings us up to average in toughness.
December 08, 2013 at 05:01 pm
Yeah, I agree with you. Flynn played a lot better today, but more in the 2nd half. He didn't play as well in the first half.
I agree to that the D was a huge reason why they won today. The first 4 drives in the 2nd half for the Falcons were, Punt, Punt, Punt, Fumble. Great job for D.
Yeah, Lacy really changes the look of the offense. But that too, so does Rodgers... I am looking forward to seeing them working together again.
December 08, 2013 at 04:59 pm
Mike's teams are always down, but NEVER out!
December 08, 2013 at 05:02 pm
I agree Atlanta have always been a dirty team i have hated them since that cheap shot on Gilbert Brown January 2003
December 08, 2013 at 05:13 pm
Great to see the TE's finally getting used again. Quarless had a great day. Bostick I would like to see get , a few more opportunity's but he seems to always make a good catch or 2 a game. Even, Taylor got in the action...
With or without Finley, the Packers have to find ways to involve the TE's more.
December 08, 2013 at 05:48 pm
I like Bostick and Stoneburner as developmental players.
I look for them to get it done at some point. Be nice if Bostick started to emerge this year yet.
December 08, 2013 at 06:42 pm
I like Bostick a lot. I think he can be a good offensive weapon. Probably more of a #2 TE, but that is ok with me.
I think Stoneburner is more of a special teams type of player. Maybe he can develop into a decent to good offensive player.
December 08, 2013 at 07:51 pm
Bostick is going to be a star on this team. I don't know when that will be either next season or for sure the following season. He's tall, athletic and most important, he's fast. I see him making the same type of progress/impact as Julius Thomas of Denver. It took Julius a few years but now he's definitely a star. Finley God bless him will never play football again.
Longshanks
December 08, 2013 at 11:33 pm
I agree with this. Bostick has shown enough to warrant some expectation for next year. I don't know if he'll be a star next year, but he certainly has a great deal of potential. Needs to work on his run blocking.
December 08, 2013 at 05:15 pm
Did we lose 2 inside linebackers today? Jones and Lattimore went down. DAMMIT! Lacy has a bad ankle, he won't be practicing this week. We may have a TE.
December 08, 2013 at 05:35 pm
I'm just dumbfounded at our inability to get to the quarterback. Every. Year.

LOL, they're in the top 5 in sacks
December 08, 2013 at 06:14 pm
You beat me to it!
But, oddly, there do seem to be lots of times we seem to put no pressure on opposing QB's.
December 08, 2013 at 06:51 pm
We either sack the QB or let him sit back there all day.
December 09, 2013 at 07:55 am
I'm aware of that, but as TK and TommyG point out, the VAST majority of the time the QB sits back and scans the field comfortably. I'd take being middle of the league in sacks if we could get some semblance of consistent pressure and force just a few hurried throws. Pass rush is pathetic.
December 08, 2013 at 05:49 pm
The Packers have been one of the best teams in the past couple seasons at getting to the quarterback believe it or not. Someone here just wrote an article about it.

Soooooo......about this Jeremy Ross guy lol . Why the fuuuuudge is he playin so good.
December 08, 2013 at 06:46 pm
?
December 08, 2013 at 06:47 pm
He needed a fresh start. To me that is what it all came down too...
I thought he could be this guy in Green Bay and he lost his confidence with the fumbles. A fresh start is what he needed.
Unfortunately it didn't work out in Green Bay.
December 08, 2013 at 07:06 pm
Can you say Slowcum
December 08, 2013 at 07:12 pm
The guy showed NOTHING in his time in GB. No decisiveness and he couldn't hold onto the ball. That's not a coaching issue its a lack of confidence.
He got cut by GB and I think SF last year, he knows right now is his last NFL chance! Getting released a couple times serves as a lot of motivation when your getting a few hundred thousand a year, or getting 20K a year for the rest of your life!
December 08, 2013 at 07:15 pm
Slocum causes guys to fumble?
December 09, 2013 at 10:54 am
yeah. i read in an article that he's a warlock who uses magical powers to cause his own players to fumble
December 08, 2013 at 06:48 pm
Who knows. He screwed us the last 2 games he played. Had no choice to waive him. That kinda shit happens. let it go and move on. Took an ex Packer to score 2/3 of the Lion's points. Guess TT really does know talent.
December 08, 2013 at 07:04 pm
I was all about dumping Ross. Apparently I was wrong, many commenters on CHTV were wrong and TT was wrong.
Or Slocum sucks.
December 08, 2013 at 07:22 pm
No you suck!
The guy showed NOTHING in his time in GB. No decisiveness and he couldn’t hold onto the ball. That’s not a coaching issue its a lack of confidence.
He got cut by GB and I think SF last year, he knows right now is his last NFL chance! Getting released a couple times serves as a lot of motivation when your getting a few hundred thousand a year, or getting 20K a year for the rest of your life!
December 08, 2013 at 07:28 pm
Sure.
As I said, I agreed with cutting him. And then he kicked our ass. And then he had an even bigger game the week after. We clearly couldn't take advantage of his talent.
That's not a coaching issue, huh?
December 08, 2013 at 06:45 pm
The Lions thought all that snow was coke and almost drown trying to snort it.
December 08, 2013 at 06:53 pm
That's a better 1990's Dallas Cowboys joke. I still laughed though.
December 08, 2013 at 06:56 pm
Ladies and gentlemen, the winning comment of the day!
December 08, 2013 at 06:56 pm
The real test for our reinvigorated D comes next week. Don't forget this was not the Falcons team that was blowing up score boards over the last few years. Atlanta sucks out loud this season. If our D looks this good next week we should win out.
December 08, 2013 at 07:19 pm
exactly. everybody needs to remember that we were playing one of the worst teams in the NFL in our house. i'm proud of our team but next week should be a much better indicator of where we are as a team. let's hope that we have rodgers back!
December 08, 2013 at 06:58 pm
Lacy's a beast!
To play the way he did w/ a bum ankle!
How do you not rally behind this guy!
Awesome.
December 08, 2013 at 07:02 pm
I hate...the cowboys.
December 08, 2013 at 07:16 pm
we all do but we hate the bares even more. go cowgirls!
December 08, 2013 at 07:38 pm
I would assume if our receiver is lined in the backlfied that it is a screen pass, and so did the Falcons.
I assume you run Lacy on first down always and so did everyone we've played. Lacy has a rep now as a non breakout back. So teams don't fear a runner who consistently gets three yard gains. Nothing to worry about so you might as well rush the passer early and often.
Mathews is being handled by everyone. Might as well put him in the middle as a linebacker becasue he ain't a pass rusher.
Flynn will be gone at the end of the year. Just not NFL material.
Lots of deadwood on this D. Too bad we can't get rid of an replace them all in one draft. Way too many players wide open again with no one around them.
Jackson looked all pro today but only had 400 yards so far this year.
Atlanta has won 3 games this year and gave us all we wanted at home, on the tundra.
December 08, 2013 at 08:07 pm
Utter rubbish the lot of your comment, simply ridiculous; it seems you do a lot of assuming-you know that goes, or perhaps you don't.
December 08, 2013 at 09:55 pm
I regard Flynn as a very good backup. Tolzien might be better, but that is to be determined in TC when Tolzien goes through an offseason with Mike.
Clay was getting double teamed all day. Which allowed Perry and Neal to get to the QB.
December 08, 2013 at 07:51 pm
The burning question of the day,in 7 deg. temp., "Were the bikini girls there?"
December 13, 2013 at 01:07 pm
They sure were! They even got a TV screen shot at one point.
December 08, 2013 at 07:59 pm
Cow42, where the hell are you? The Packers won!! Quit hiding in shame!! The tide has finally turned for Green Bay and you know it. You know your days of gloom and doom are over. The least you could do is show your face here and admit you were wrong.
Longshanks
December 08, 2013 at 08:22 pm
I AM THAT I AM. I SHALL RETURNETH NEXT SUNDAY AND THE NFL SHALL SHITTETH THEIR PANTS. AND I WILL STRIKE DOWN WITH GREAT VENGENCE THOSE WHO DOUBTETH ME AND ALL TROLLS WHO TRASHETH THE PACKERS. AARON 12:15
December 08, 2013 at 09:19 pm
Hes not cow anymore he's clowney. He also said that we needed to man up...have some pride..and get a win. Well guess what...we did.
December 08, 2013 at 10:15 pm
1. Gotta stick with hurry-up when Flynn is playing.
2. Packers need to work on setting up screen passes and other check downs to Lacy. Great potential there.
3. Ty Dunne had a good piece last week where he interviewed Jerome Bettis about how Lacy can lengthen his career. Bottom line: gotta know when to avoid some of the punishment. Dish some, juke some and get out of bounds sometimes.
December 08, 2013 at 11:35 pm
Agreed on all fronts.
That being said, he should not have gotten that hand-off at the end of the half. Just stupid on the MM front. If you are ceding the play, just kneel!
December 09, 2013 at 06:11 pm
I was hoping for speed and power in the backfield and Lacy, a nice kid who plays with a ton of heart, isn't getting it done.
He lacks break out speed and if you look at his stats, he is getting killed runing 20 times for 60 yards. He is a three yards a pop guy. Thats it. Teams do not fear him running or breaking through the line. He is not a threat and that alone tampers the running game.
We have someone who can run. Not someone who is a threat to break it open every carry. Huge difference in the NFL.
December 10, 2013 at 06:06 am
Did Flynn technically have a 4th quarter comeback drive for the win?
Of course, the D for a change held Altanta scoreless for the entire 2nd half.
December 13, 2013 at 01:08 pm
technically, sure. But the D won this game while the offense was merely serviceable.
