I gotta think they'll be grabbing a back-up OT from the waiver wire, right?
August 31, 2012 at 12:07 pm
Looks like they're not putting Sherrod on the PUP. Then you have him, EDS and Barclay as backups.
August 31, 2012 at 04:06 pm
My guess is that until Sherrod is ready to go, the plan is to reshuffle the line if injury occurs, with either Lang or Bulaga moving to LT and EDS taking their spot.

Next years cuts will be harder, reason to much talent this might be the best talent ever.
August 31, 2012 at 07:13 pm
Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too many maginal 3rd and 4th rounders on this team. These guys make mistakes, often. Reason they weren't on top college teams. Not fast enough, strong enough or smart enough.
Packers are 8-8 at best.
August 31, 2012 at 10:00 pm
8-8 at best?
uh.... wow.
August 31, 2012 at 11:14 am
Man, Levine just canNOT crack the 53.
August 31, 2012 at 11:54 am
levine to bears
borel and or gurley to miami/ kc
and me, to Miller Park for Bobby U Statue Day

S Anthony Levine -- maybe a case where he does everything OK, but nothing spectacular. I think he's hit his ceiling (hasn't he been around for more than two years); won't be surprised if he doesn't go to the PS.
C Sampson Genus -- had an entire off-season to work on shotgun snaps, etc, but showed no advance from last year. Doubt he's invited to PS.
WR Tori Gurley -- kept hearing about his ability to block a punt. Seriously, how often does this happen? He's got to bring more to the table than an unrealized threat of a blocked punt.
WR Diondre Borel -- about same size as Cobb, but not as shifty. Won't be surprised if he's not invited to PS.
OL Tommie Draheim -- a huge part of Harrell's sub-standard preseason. Won't be back.
T Andrew Datko -- maybe PS, maybe not. No great win or loss either way.
FB Nic Cooper -- thought he was heir-apparent to Kuhn... until I saw him run with the ball. He looks like a cross between a guard and a dancing bear.
TE Brandon Bostick -- who?
OL Reggie Wells -- saw nothing that made me think he was a starter for 4 or 6 seasons.
G Greg Van Roten -- could be good addition to PS. Along with Barclay, tried to keep 2nd-tier oLine respectable.
T Shea Allard -- Sieve. As bad, or worse than Draheim.
WR Dale Moss -- who ?
DE Lawrence Guy -- goodbye. seen nothing from him for two seasons.
August 31, 2012 at 12:53 pm
I thought Moss flashed some ability and his size and speed may see him make the PS ?
August 31, 2012 at 06:20 pm
Moss was never going to make the roster. He was always going to be a PS guy. He knew that and the Packers knew that. He played one year in college after ending his basketball career. Unbelievable athlete. Possibly the best athlete in the draft.
August 31, 2012 at 01:38 pm
Interesting that Boykin is still in the running.
August 31, 2012 at 03:45 pm
Lawrence Guy has shown a lot of improvement if you ask me. He's really been moving the OL, but he's still a little raw. One more year on the PS and he will fight for a roster spot. This is a guy with a learning disability that came out early. He's younger then you might realize. He was also on IR his first year.
Levine got screwed by Richardson. This guy really came on, and yesterday they finally gave him a chance and boy did he make his statement. Richardson might very well be the best SS on the team. I think we keep him on the PS for extra depth because he's close to being ready.
The big surprise for me is that Coleman isn't cut yet which tells me they are seriously considering 3 QB's. I like Coleman, but I hope they put him on the PS. He'll be able to make it I think.
August 31, 2012 at 11:57 am
in hopes Crew choses to use a statue out of the bullpen for improvement.
August 31, 2012 at 01:56 pm
Sean Richardson made the team. Good for him.
August 31, 2012 at 02:06 pm
Muir? I thought he was a lock.
August 31, 2012 at 03:32 pm
ditto
August 31, 2012 at 04:56 pm
he flashed a few times, but i watched the line only all preseason and he was really bad at times. Merling was more consistent in games hands down
August 31, 2012 at 02:22 pm
Remember when people thought we were going to change our defense because of the Hargrove and Muir signings? That was a fun time. ;-)
August 31, 2012 at 05:44 pm
Funny how things chance quickly in this game - but with no guaranteed contract - bring them in and let them go .. these were low dollar values signings .. veteran minimum I believe ..
August 31, 2012 at 10:04 pm
Remember when people thought the Packers would play more 4 man fronts because of the Worthy and Daniels signings? And when Dom Capers stated he'd be playing far more dime this season?
Just sayin'.
August 31, 2012 at 02:24 pm
Muir is a huge surprise. All the reps for Merling last week were not a mirage. Wow.
August 31, 2012 at 02:26 pm
I'm very surprised about Muir if that list is correct.
August 31, 2012 at 03:11 pm
I agree with evan. Happy Richardson made team. He n Mac will be damn good battle for safety!
August 31, 2012 at 03:13 pm
They might look at Muir as a guy they most likely can get off the street mid-season if they need a d-lineman due to injury or ineffectiveness. In a sense he's on-call, although he doesn't get paid for it.
August 31, 2012 at 03:23 pm
I can only hope the Muir cut doesn't = 8,000,000 reps by Raji again this year.
August 31, 2012 at 03:29 pm
This.
August 31, 2012 at 03:33 pm
Agree, I was hoping they'd keep 7 d-lineman, if for nothing else to spell the starting fat-men.
August 31, 2012 at 04:30 pm
Me too. 7 DL men deserved to make this team. At least 7.
Can't say the same thing about 8 OLmen.
August 31, 2012 at 04:32 pm
6 d-linemen, 7 d-linemen...keeping track is for the farting stat-men.
August 31, 2012 at 05:09 pm
Clever Doug.
August 31, 2012 at 03:58 pm
Not sure that Muir really has the build the Packers are looking for from a NT. Maybe you will see some down where Pickett is spelling Raji, and see Pickett splitting time at DE with another player? That might be the better way to go, particularly with the mileage on Pickett starting to add up.
August 31, 2012 at 10:07 pm
Yup. Merling is proto build for a 3-4 DE, so I would guess the hope is Pickett and Raji are the primary nose tackles, while Wilson, Merling, and Worthy play most of the DE snaps, with Pickett peppered in there as needed.
August 31, 2012 at 03:27 pm
Hope Muir 2012 will not end up being same as Cullen Jenkins 2011!
August 31, 2012 at 04:03 pm
Muir showed some flashes of nice play, but he's not even remotely on the level of Cullen Jenkins, especially as a pass rusher. He's a depth player.
That said, I would wager to say that he is the biggest surprise of all of the cuts at this point.
August 31, 2012 at 03:37 pm
Do the Packers have to designate Bishop to be their "marquee" player who is eligible to return from IR today by 8 P.M?
They still could save that for a player in weeks 2-8 of the season.
August 31, 2012 at 03:40 pm
Gotta think Muir and Hargrove were only brought in as vets to increase the competition with the rookies and push them on. It makes no sense as to why Muir was cut. He's a good backup at NT to rest Raji.
August 31, 2012 at 04:18 pm
I say we cut Rodgers.
August 31, 2012 at 04:31 pm
You are fired for speaking such blasphemy. ;)
August 31, 2012 at 11:11 pm
we have to overlook our special fans lol
August 31, 2012 at 04:35 pm
Sign Tyler Sash - Giants cut him - may be a good safety
August 31, 2012 at 05:00 pm
It's 5pm (Packer Daylight Time) and I see 17 listed -- with Muir being the last.
75 - 17 = 58, right ?
so there are still 5 more cuts, even though we've PUP'd and IR'd some people ???
August 31, 2012 at 05:23 pm
and Walden and Neal don't count for now...
... so that leaves 3 more ??
August 31, 2012 at 05:24 pm
56 Walden and Neal are suspended starting now, I think.
August 31, 2012 at 05:39 pm
If they keep Coleman - it must mean they had no one worth keeping as the 53 player- what happens after game 1 when Walden comes .
August 31, 2012 at 05:41 pm
Guess Ted is trying to make a trade for the last 2 / 3 cuts.. he got a pick from the Jets last year for a D or O line man.. also a pick for a fullback..
August 31, 2012 at 06:15 pm
where's the good the bad and the not so ugly from the chiefs game.
August 31, 2012 at 06:45 pm
IIRC Walden and Neal's suspension does not start until Monday so they do count towards the 53 man roster. Packer's would be able to add two people to the roster after they start their suspension.
August 31, 2012 at 08:55 pm
My sources add Coleman to the list, Boykin as WR #6.
GBP 4 LIFE
August 31, 2012 at 10:10 pm
I'm glad they kept Boykin. All that guy does is catch passes. Hmmmm isn't that what they are supposed to do? If he could just show James Jones how to do that it would be great!
September 01, 2012 at 03:09 am
+1
August 31, 2012 at 08:56 pm
Silverstein's roster numbers are off by one because he's listing Walden as one of 10 LBs (but we know that Waldon doesn't count against the roster because of the suspension). I thought So'oto would be cut but he was placed on IR instead.... I'm surprised that CB Brandian Ross made the 53...but he could easily be cut if TT acquires an 8th OL.
August 31, 2012 at 08:57 pm
I vaguely remember that a veteran on the roster for the first game is guaranteed a full year's pay. If I remember correctly, that would be a reason why Muir was dropped. He'd probably be toast when Neal returns in 4 games anyhow.
August 31, 2012 at 09:09 pm
Muir will be picked up . Too many other teams (Rams) need help on D line, even as a rental. Suprised at the lack of O line depth. Shuffling seldom works.
August 31, 2012 at 10:25 pm
TT and MM are doubling down on Newhouse. Really hope it doesn't turn into the Tony Moll experience.
September 01, 2012 at 09:35 am
It won't. He was a developmental prospect that we had to turn to 1 year too early. He improved with each and every start last year. Barring injury, he'll be an adequate LT this year in September, and an above average one in Dec.
Next year he'll be very, very, solid.
And, if things go wrong, MM has Sherrod to try out in his back pocket. :D
September 01, 2012 at 11:20 am
Not sure about that one, saw the same problems he was having last year.
I think MM will have to tone down on slow developing plays. Playing against fast RDEs will be though.
Not saying he won't improve, but he's a liability right now.
September 01, 2012 at 01:08 pm
Optimism abounds before game one.
Look for the RB to bail out Newhouse all year long. Unfortunately, that reduces by ‘one’ the options AR will have when he’s running for his life.

O-line, D-line. Damn, it's hard to find BIG guys who can play. Very disappointing that another o-line guy didn't step up and claim a spot. Don't the Pack almost have to trade for a tackle now? They've got to have some proven experience, not a developmental guy. Wells wasn't it, but he's the right idea. I hope they're able to get the quality they need off waivers, but if it's not there...GOT to have some quality backup. If Newhouse and anyone else go down, whew...that fearsome aerial attack may be running for its life.
September 01, 2012 at 12:46 am
blockers? He don't need no stinking blockers...A-Rod is like playing in the back yard with the adult who made us all miss....
September 01, 2012 at 03:11 am
Whatever you have to tell yourself to sleep at night I suppose.
September 01, 2012 at 09:23 am
How how the 53 man roster looks like?
I'm under the impression we've got only 2 tackles in the roster...
September 01, 2012 at 11:58 am
So, evidently the Packers are interested in Kafka. It would appear the Packers are okay with bringing in the horrifying "new guy."
September 01, 2012 at 12:18 pm
Anytime you can keep a guy who beats a pregnat woman, that's a move you gotta make.
