Regarding Flynn and the franchise tag, I believe a franchised player is guaranteed the average of the top five at his position. If the top five in the NFL are around $15 million to $20 million (strictly guessing), why would anyone want to trade for him and then have to pay him that. What would happen is the Pack would then be forced to keep him at that high salary (higher than Rodgers). Obviously this is not going to happen.
In most cases, the teams agreed to a re-structured contract before the trade is made. But even then, I think it’s unlikely in this case that any team would want to invest anywhere near that amount of money in Flynn.
What is the timeline for franchising? If there was a trade close to being completed, yes;otherwise they’ll let him walk and take the draft pick.
Finley will get a big offer from a crappy team with an inexperienced QB that needs the safety net. St. Louis and Miami come to mind. It hasn’t worked bad for Atlanta with Gonzales.
Wells is where I see the tag coming. Anyone know the franchise number for centers?
The thing with offensive linemen is, I don’t think they break it up by position. If centers had their own category, the tag would be much lower, but because they’re all lumped together, the high salaries paid to tackles bumps it way up over $10 million I think.
