Packers in Play for 2013 NFL Kickoff Game at Baltimore

As a result of winning Sunday’s Super Bowl, the Baltimore Ravens earn the honor of hosting the Thursday night NFL Kickoff game to open the 2013 regular season.

Because the NFC North faces the AFC North next season, and Green Bay is scheduled to play at Baltimore on the road next season, the Packers are a possibility to play in the nationally televised season opener.

The Packers hosted the New Orleans Saints in the annual Kickoff game two seasons ago following their victory in Super Bowl XLV.

It’s rare when the NFL chooses two teams from different conferences to face each other in the Kickoff game, but it’s not out of the question. A matchup between two players named Super Bowl MVPs, Joe Flacco and Aaron Rodgers, could be a draw.

Other 2012 playoff teams scheduled to play at Baltimore in 2013 include the New England Patriots, Houston Texans, and Minnesota Vikings.

The entire NFL schedule is typically revealed sometime in mid-April, however, a few high-profile games such as the NFL Kickoff game are typically announced at the NFL’s Owners Meeting, as noted by ESPN.com NFC North blogger Kevin Seifert.

I can’t imagine they wouldn’t go with the Patriots. Rival game + AFC Championship rematch.
