The Green Bay Packers on Tuesday promoted Jordan Miller from their practice squad to the 53-man roster. To make room, they released outside linebacker Vic So’oto. “If you want to read between the tea leaves, the transactions might signal outside linebacker Clay Matthews is healthy after missing the last four games with an injured hamstring,” writes Bill Huber of Packer Report. “It also might signal defensive ends C.J. Wilson (knee) and Mike Neal (shoulder) will miss their third and second consecutive games, respectively.” It’s also interesting to note that Miller spent last season with the Bears and was with them during training camp last year as well. The Packers play the Bears on Sunday.
During his weekly radio show on Tuesdays on the ESPN Radio affiliate in Milwaukee, quarterback Aaron Rodgers talked about the Packers running game that saw a good deal of success this past week against the Lions. Will it be able to keep it up against the Bears? “I think it’s kind of wait and see,” Rodgers is quoted as saying by host Jason Wilde at ESPNMilwaukee.com. “How much impact could the last two weeks have on a Chicago team that likes to play a lot of two-high, split safety defenses?” The Packers have been taking what the opposing defenses give them. If they play with their safeties back, the Packers have been running the football more often.
Mike McCarthy and his positive approach to the game of football is detailed in a feature article by Lori Nickel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, including thoughts from several Packers players about their coach. “You’ll never hear McCarthy say he’s out to prove the doubters wrong,” writes Nickel. “You’ll never hear him vent his defenses to critics. One of his survival tactics is that he doesn’t waste his energy on anything he perceives as negative.” The Packers certainly made the right hire when they named McCarthy coach. He’s different than many others in his profession, and different in a good way.
