Packers Can Be Even Better Next Season

This week’s column focuses on how the Packers are set up to be even better next season:

There’s no reason the Packers shouldn’t be even better in 2011. Expect an improvement upon their 10-6 regular-season record, a greater ability to win close games and the right to host playoff games at Lambeau Field.

The column appears in the Bliss Communications platform of publications including the Janesville Gazette, Janesville Messenger, Stateline News, Walworth County Today and Walworth County Sunday.

It also appears in the Reilly family of newspapers including the Dodgeville Chronicle, the Pecatonica Valley Leader and the Democrat Tribune of Mineral Point.

    1) Make sure noone steals Dom.
    2) Sign Nnamdi Asomugha for 10 million.
    3) Let TT draft LBs and OL.

Whereas Cullen is amazing, Tramon and Nnamdi will eliminate receivers 1 and 2, Woodson plays anywhere he wants on any play and Shields is the best nickle in the league. Blitz away.

    • WoodyG says:

Nnamdi Asomugha is 30 years old ….. The future starting CBs for GB (Tramon & Shields) are both undrafted free-agents ….. No way is TT going to deviate from ‘his’ norm & spend big bucks for an outsider in a position that is already strong …. TT’s very good at not offering contracts that could cause player pay scale issues ……

don’t forget about a kick returner

Playing playoff games in Lambeau will be great but,the level of play in the cold needs to improve.

    • Aaron Nagler says:

Huh? They beat the Giants, Bears, Eagles and Bears again (with everything on the line) “in the cold” – I think the “level of play” is pretty good.

      • You beat me to that comment, Aaron. Not to mention San Francisco in December and taking the Patriots to the wire on the road.

      • WoodyG says:

You two are falling for the old adage that one season always leads to the next …… There are just as many examples of pro as there are con ….. Although AR is still the QB coached by a ‘pass-happy’ HC, it doesn’t mean that the running game won’t be a major plus & the “key” to GB’s season 2011 …. I’d love to see AR hand the ball off more in 2011 ….. Increases his odds of playing all 16 (or 18) regular season games …..

        • Aaron Nagler says:

I’m not falling for anything. And I love that you’re still beating the “lack of a running game” drum….

          • WoodyG says:

AR has the ability & demeanor to be one of the NFL’s best all-time …… The only thing that could derail him is injury ….. He has to be protected & everything possible has to happen to reduce his chance of injury ….. A solid running game helps …… I thought the ‘Majik Man’ had a good chance of being great ….. He got hit too many times & his entire career was adversely affected ….. There’s a boatload of examples, especially at the QB position …… It’s ‘Football 101′ ……

I just got home from yesterday’s celebration at Lambeau.
    Cold as hell.
Was it wrong of me to bring my 9,7, and 3 year old kids?

Anyhow, got home after a 4 hour drive and decided to watch a recorded Packer game (yup – I’m sick). Threw on the game vs buffalo. First thing I recognized was Barnett, and Jones, and Chillar, and Finley, and Burnett, and Neal, etc., etc., etc…

It’s one thing to read about the fact that this team lost 15/16 players to IR. It’s another thing altogether to actually see all those guys who ended up being taken away.

It just made the fact that THEY ACTUALLY WON THE SUPER BOWL that much more amazing (to me).

My personal hilights of yesterday’s “festivities”…
-McCarthy walk out of the tunnel carrying THE TROPHY (closure for me)
    -Longest standing “O” for DD
-McCarthy stating to the fans “You keep bringing the energy and we’ll keep bringing back trophies.”
-Thompson accidentally calling it the Lambeau Trophy (he is by far my favorite robot of all time)
-The looks on my kids faces during the “Grand Finale” fireworks, hilight videos, blaring music.

We are all so lucky to be fans of this team.

    So.
    Damn.
    Lucky.

Looking forward the SUPERBOWL VICTORY Edition Packer Transplants LIVE!!
Hope there isn’t a lock out because next year is going to be a blast. Watching yestedays Lambeau Celebration gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

  5. Scriptura says:

If a lockout does happen, we just get to call ourselves World Champions for longer then the given year.

  6. JerseyPackFan says:

Looking at the opponents for 2011. I am willing to bet money the first game of the season is a Thursday night game in Lambeau against the Saints.

  7. KEITH SAGER says:

just curious, if the fans are the owners of the packers, and an owners lockout occurs, who turns the key? murphy? could the “packer onwers” ever choose to side with the packer players instead of the 31 NFL owners. The only prerequisite for an owner appears to be money and to be a tool.
