For what it’s worth, I have left the Packers until last (best for last? we can discuss).
If you haven’t seen it, and have about an hour, you can watch it below.
On to the regular football stuff from around the League.
RG3, Concussions and why we think NFL teams are full of crap
Because, we do, don’t we?
Honestly, don’t you look at any report on a player being ‘fine’ in regards to concussion with a raised eyebrow?
Does anyone feel really comfortable with Griffin back in the saddle this weekend outside of DC?
Doe anyone feel remotely OK with the news Jahvid Best could return to action in Week 7 or 8?
I don’t. I don’t trust teams on this. I heard Mike Golic talking about this on the ‘Mike and Mike’ morning show (yeah I know) and he seemed shocked anyone thinks there might be something untruthful in the Redskins getting RG3 back on the field.
I mean, it’s not as if we haven’t seen these things go wrong before, right? *coughColtMcCoycough*
There’s another reason beyond, I don’t know, past history, which makes us increasingly mistrustful of the NFL teams and their injuries.
For all the talk of protecting the ‘shield’ there is plenty the league office has smudged it with.
Bountygate continues to be an ever-deeper murky mess that has flipped me from strident advocate of to leery bystander. I mean at this point, every time they don’t show me hard evidence I believe them less.
Also with all the talk of safer games, the product on the field got pretty damned dangerous when the replacement referees were out there.
More cheap shots and questionable acts took place on the field while the replacements were in there than the last few years combined.
Now, why did this happen? For the same reason the player lockout happened—to steal a Randy Moss phrase: straight cash homey.
We know this is a business and a bottom line one at that. But it increasingly seems as if even player safety only comes down to cost.
So we don’t believe them because it is in their best financial interest to have their best players on the field.
Who sells more tickets: RG3 or Kirk Cousins?
It’s not even close.
I’m not saying this is some sort of under-the-table evil dealings. It’s not even conscious in all likelihood.
But if you think about why you didn’t quite believe the RG3 reports almost right after the game saying he’d be fine—well maybe you’re feeling a little of what I feel these days.
Every time the rookie or (when it inevitably happens on a desperate Lions team) Best take a hit I’m going to cringe.
They are grown men playing a grown man game—but sometimes grown men need to be saved from themselves.
I don’t trust the owners to do it.
That’s pretty much it for today. Sorry this is late, but that’s what happens at times.
I’ll do better next week—and likely bring Underrated/Overrated back as well.
Don’t forget to come by the Hard Count Tuesday nights at 9:30 PM EST.
