If the Packers are correct and the Vikings enticed Favre to try this then this could very likely be true. With the tampering charge, regardless of whether or not the Vikings are punished, there is no way Favre could end up with the Vikings. He may finally be realizing that he’s coming off as the bad guy in this situation and deciding to cut his losses.

What the general public needs to understand is how hard this time of the year must be for Favre. The dude has played football his entire life. It’s all he knows. And he can still play… better than most QB’s slated to start on opening day (and arguably better than our own current starter.)

But all that doesn’t matter if his heart isn’t 100% into it. No one should be surprised that he “got the itch.” No one should be surprised that he was knocking over high school kids going across the middle. And no one should be surprised that after all this craziness, Brett Favre took a breath and remembered how hard he had to work last year to live up to being “Brett Favre” and decided that he just couldn’t make that commitment again.

Keith’s got it spot on. I know I’ve mentioned the tears before, somewhat to Aaron’s skepticism, but part of me KNEW that if he was that upset, he was going to miss a) playing b)his team c) the fans d) all of the above. I just knew it. I hoped, however, that if he wanted to come back it would have played out better.

I would love to see Brett play, even for a few other teams. I can support him and still love the Packers.

But I do not want him to be sacrificed as he would be for those teams listed. It would be a horrible mistake. So, stay retired, my friend, and I will cheer you when they retire #4 at Lambeau.
