Favre Reportedly To Retire

Brett Favre reportedly informed Vikings' teammates that he intends to retire.

Brett Favre reportedly informed teammates that he intends to retire, rather than return as the Vikings starting quarterback in 2010.

Now that that is out of the way...

Let's all remember that at the start of camp last year, after a what was reported as a long talk with Ryan Longwell, Favre "informed" Brad Childress that he would not be coming out of retirement to play for the Vikings.

We all remember how that turned out:

So please: Let's take this with a large grain of salt.

(*laughs hard shaking head with indifference towards Favre pain, suffering & general existance.....)

Is it too much to ask for a single training camp across the NFL without this megalomaniac? Ugh, I will be avoiding ESPN, NFL network.....TV in general until September. Is the SyFy channel safe????

My thoughts exactly. Goodbye to the NFL Network for at least a few days. Ugh. What a drawn-out, ugly process Favre has made of retiring.

Can he really waffle? AGAIN? Guys, call me a sucker; but I think this HAS to be it. No way he can show his face in a month or two. Can he?

I feel like I should know better, but I gotsta think... IT'S FINALLY OVER.

The worst part about this is all the Favre questions that people will be asking in the Packers locker room. I hope they all go with Ted's answer: "I've got my own team to worry about."

As much as I want to believe this, he is still under contract to the Queenies. I can visualize him on a self imposed PUP and because he prayed to St. Cosmo, the patron Saint of NFL feet, a miraculous recovery occurs in week 6. Back just in time to save the day in the stretch and still, technically, keep his consecutive game string alive.

Something about him says what ever he says will change in a short period of time. His big risk is Tavaris actually plays well. Not likely, but could happen.

Yeah, I hear you.

I'll be a little disappointed that the Packers may not ever get a chance to beat a Favre-led Vikings team, and I have to believe that played into Brett's decision, should he stick to it.

He saw how the Packers came together during the second half of the season, he sees the Packers OLine shaping up, and he sees a 3-4 scheme that will be out to punish him this time around. What a perfect bit of vengeance to exit stage left with 2 wins over the Packers, not allowing them to even attempt to even the score.

It's sad that I hate that guy so much. What a dick.

There's an extremely twisted/dark side of me that would laugh even harder if T. Jackson took them to the Super Bowl and put up better numbers against a more difficult schedule. Of course they would lose.

To walk down the aisle this far into the season and leave them standing at the altar, screwed them in the draft as they could have went after a QB (Clausen), But again I will believe it when I see it.

Okay. Favre will play this year. 99% sure of that.

BUT, if for some reason he doesn't play, it'll have a lot to do with his last game. They were set to get him. And it affected him. Teams know that's how you play the Vikings: you hurt Favre.

At 41, the thought of getting beat every single Sunday must be influencing him.

But we all know he'll play.

Brett Favre is a douchebag.

Over 12 hours ago, the media exploded with reports of his retirement. Since then, the Vikings world has been turned upside down. It is now impossible for the Vikings to focus on anything else, and all of Favre's teammates, coaches, and friends are being bombarded non-stop by the media.

If it was you in Favre's position, don't you think you would have felt an obligation to make some sort of statement? What kind of a**hole would leave everyone of importance in his life twisting in the wind, and allow them to be battered by the press?

I don't care what BF's plan was as far as when he was going to make his announcement- any human being with an ounce of decency and common sense would have realized the circus that was being created here and gotten out in front of it with some sort of statement- either "I'm leaving", "I'm coming back" or "I haven't made up my mind".

What the hell kind of self-centered, narcisistic ego maniac allows all of this controversy to swirl around him and devour the people he is supposed to care about?

Don't be so shocked. Those crocs breathe very well, lots of cross ventilation. Plus, they are waterproof, so, you can... you know, hose them down to clean them off.

But seriously, I'm conflicted on this one. THe part of me who sees the last three years of BF wants it to be confirmed as true. But the more reasonable side of me that believes in time BF will make amends with Packer Nation and "come home" wants this to go away.

I can't wait for the retraction comments his teammate(s) is going to have to make in the wake of this crap, as insisted upon by Childress or Wilf should Betty come back to play.

NFP reporting they've offered him $1million per game (with incentives and a 20% increase). Any level of underachieving and his teamates have to look around and wonder, "this guy got $1 million/game, did't come to camp and, basically held ownership hostage?" He gets rewarded for this type of behavior after a decade of late-season ineptitude???????

Patron Saint of NFL feet already answered his prayers. verything is true, texts, denials, etc. You know, the typical August crap that comes from knowing and loving Bent. Well, that and Zigster found an additional $7 mil to give his bi-polar QB this year.

The great thing is old Sage and Tavaris are really getting that confidence build up they needed.

For not caring about Favre, you seem to have quite the urge to comment on him. I count 12 posts under the username "DAWG," which I assume are all from you, all on an article about which you do not care. Good job, friend.

I've read of an interesting solution on this thing called the internet, where you don't have to read articles that don't interest you. It's complicated, but what it boils down to is, basically, DON'T CLICK ON THE FRIGGIN LINK. This works on two levels, first, the article won't even pop up. Second, when articles get lots of clicks, writers take note and make sure to write about the same subject again in order to drive more clicks, and thus more revenue. But hey, you have every right to do what you want on the internet, so go nuts, buddy.
