Wow, a sack and a fumble! Really unhappy!
December 28, 2009 at 08:16 pm
I think the sack fumble look should count for 2!
December 28, 2009 at 08:18 pm

December 28, 2009 at 08:27 pm
Bears D looking tough, Favre looking "chilly," bring out the Cheesehead gear, Bedard!
December 28, 2009 at 08:31 pm
This is probably premature, but regardless of how Favre's face is looking, I'll drink to what appears to be the quintessential Vikings' late season breakdown. Only wish it would have started a week or two sooner.
Cheers!
December 28, 2009 at 08:35 pm

December 28, 2009 at 08:37 pm
I just saw the quintessential "I wish I weren't here" look from Judas. I know what you're saying Oppy, but even if it's premature, it's fun while it's lasting! Do the Bears fans know that most of Packer Nation (or all the "real fans") are behind their team tonight?
December 28, 2009 at 08:42 pm
touuuuuchhchhchchchchchdownnnnnnnn bearrrssssssssssss nahaahahahahahahahhahaha
December 28, 2009 at 08:51 pm
foundinidaho - I let the fans over at WindyCityGridiron know...they're a little shellshocked by what they're seeing on the field, let alone the fact that Packer fans are behind them tonight. Go figure.
December 28, 2009 at 08:53 pm
Well, Holly, at least it's a pleasant shellshocked on both counts. I don't think I've seen Brent smile once tonight. Go Bears!
December 28, 2009 at 09:07 pm
I love that Saints fans are also cheering for the Bears on WDG. I'm entertained.
December 28, 2009 at 09:15 pm
The loss of Henderson is really killing this Queens team. I love it.
December 28, 2009 at 09:17 pm
Aaron, seriously, you have missed at least 4 frowning Brent sightings.
December 28, 2009 at 09:21 pm
I agree. I've seen, at minimum, two in the bumpers for commercials. That last one was rather blatant.
December 28, 2009 at 09:34 pm
6:30 3rd quarter. Sad lookin' face. Oh my!
December 28, 2009 at 09:36 pm
C'mon Favre desperation interception!
December 28, 2009 at 09:37 pm
6:45 - Chilly dropping Favre off at the Airport, happy looking face.
December 28, 2009 at 09:38 pm
Yikes, this looks like the Bears' defensive unit from their Superbowl run. They are just nasty.
I sincerely hope this is just an emotional outlet spurring this on, and not a preview of a defensive resurgence for next season.
December 28, 2009 at 09:42 pm
6:50 - Favres picture on Grudens Locket.
December 28, 2009 at 09:53 pm
Would someone make Gruden shut up. He is all over the place with the hype.
December 28, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Amen, MadMan. C'mon Bears.
December 28, 2009 at 10:14 pm
Look's like Cutler is starting to revert back to the player we know he is, and the Bears who they are. I feel it slippin away.
December 28, 2009 at 10:17 pm
FU, Chucky
December 28, 2009 at 10:21 pm
DA Bears. They are who we thought they were.
December 28, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Maybe Judas is who we think he is.
December 28, 2009 at 10:32 pm
Zach Bowman I hate you! You are officially my least favorite Bear which in and of itself says alot.
December 28, 2009 at 10:38 pm
22 sec. can the Bears hold? Could it be?
December 28, 2009 at 10:41 pm
DAMN!
December 28, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Pray for the coin toss - to St. Vincent. Bears have played well over their heads tonight. One more series.
December 28, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Surrender!
December 28, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Dammitt Chicago! You had the game won right there!
December 28, 2009 at 10:45 pm
If you ever decide to play the Jay Cutler sad-face drinking game let me know so I can have a keg and an ambulance on hand to take me to the emergency room. He seriously looks like he is about to breakdown and cry every single time I see him.
December 28, 2009 at 10:45 pm
Wahoo, Bears start with the ball!
December 28, 2009 at 10:48 pm
I've spent the whole second half wondering when Favre gets sacked. Then I realized--he plays for a team WITH AN OFFENSIVE LINE. He doesn't get sacked. That's US.
*
LET'S HEAR IT FOR ZONE BLOCKING!!!!
*
I hate Brent so much I could puke. I hate that he's making me root for the BEARS.
December 28, 2009 at 10:51 pm
The Bears suck. I'm going to bed.
December 28, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Oh my God! They sacked hium! TWICE! THERE IS A SANTA CLAUS!
December 28, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Favre needs better protection. From all the verbal ejaculate that Jaworski and Gruden are spewing all over him, that is.
December 28, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Cuphound,
Favre just got sacked 3 in a row in overtime, be happy!
also, the zone blocking scheme the Packers utilize has little to nothing to do with pass protection. It's our run scheme.
December 28, 2009 at 11:01 pm
I can't breathe. Good God Bears, let's get this done!
December 28, 2009 at 11:02 pm
AND THATS THE DAGGER!!!!
December 28, 2009 at 11:02 pm
I couldn't go to bed. Good thing. DA BEARS did it.
December 28, 2009 at 11:02 pm
OH YES! Never thought I'd be soooo stoked for a Bears victory. The inverse of that Favre dagger against the Broncos in 2007.
December 28, 2009 at 11:04 pm
For once, I could kiss Jay Cutler. Seriously. Thank you Lovie & Co.
December 28, 2009 at 11:08 pm
Congrats Aaron, you deserve to win this bet against Debbie Downer.
December 28, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Greg, have you changed your avatar yet? HA HA HA!!!!
Congrats, Aaron, I thought you were wrong, but I was. Yes!
December 28, 2009 at 11:41 pm

Hey Oppy,
*
Thanks for the bit about zone blocking being a running and not passing strategy. It explains some things and doesn't others. I've been reading <a HREF="http://www.tomahawknation.com/2009/6/9/900288/understanding-zone-blockin... rel="nofollow">this. Your statement explains why they only show running plays and not any passing plays. But Gibbs seems to have a distinct philosophy with respect to both passing and running in the piece. So:
*
(1) what sort of blocking goes along with pass protection in this philosophy?
*
(2) If zone blocking isn't the problem, what was leading to all those sacks earlier in the season?
*
Reading the piece at the hyperlink, I guessed that the central problem had to be the double-teaming the first level defensive linemen and then one O-lineman breaking off to hit the linebacker coming in at the next level. It's hard to judge when the double-team is secure, so either the one of the O-linemen would break too early to hit the linebacker and the defensive lineman would get loose and get at the QB, or the double-team would last too long and the linebacker would break through to hit the QB.
*
If that's not what's happening on all the pass plays where Rodgers gets sacked, what is happening? I would really like to know.
*
It was painful and eerie to watch the Vikings tonight. Favre had time to work. Moreover, I just can't imagine Rodgers getting that sort of time to patiently sift through the defense. Remember that heartbreaking fourth-down play that tied up the game? No way Rodgers gets four downs in the red zone and never gets sacked.
*
If Favre were behind our O-line, he'd stink. Remember him trying to run around outside the pocket the way that Rodgers does? He's an old man. He can't do it. Truth be told, I don't think many in this league could.
December 29, 2009 at 04:30 am
Doesn't Favre horning in on Cutlers post game interview count? I like the lurking he did to pull it off. Quite a difference from the last time I saw him run off the field at Soldier as a Packer, I dont think time had even expired yet. Must have been the warm glow of the spotlights that sustained him.
December 29, 2009 at 09:12 am
Toad? Toad? Toad? Where are you?
December 29, 2009 at 09:34 am
"Best team I've ever been on.....". I wonder how Favre feels about that statement now with a team failing in almost every phase of the game? Granted, Henderson was a huge loss for the Vikings, but they supposedly improved with Harvin, Loadholt, Sullivan at Center, Rice developing and such great special teams.
They have the 3rd weakest schedule in the NFL, much easier than last year, yet they are only 1 win better with Favre as their savior? Anyone explain this to me?
December 29, 2009 at 09:53 am
Anyone else think Favre might have sustained a slight concussion on the first sack in OT? His head snapped back, and he looked like he had a groggy headache.
December 29, 2009 at 10:38 am
Cuphound
I'll give my reasons for number 2. Clifton was injured, Tauscher was still injured, Spitz was injured, and Colledge was hurt. Injuries happen and it shouldn't be an excuse, players ''simply'' need to step up when pressed into service, but it is a reason. Not many if any teams are deep enough to overcome having three starter on their line out and we are no exception. Combine that with the play calling and Rodgers holding to the ball too much at times and that is the rack up the sacks trifecta. All three of those things seemed to have been straightened out for the most part at the midway point of the season.
December 29, 2009 at 10:45 am
Thank you Bears! Favre was soooooo bad!
December 29, 2009 at 04:56 pm
Cuphound,
There ARE examples of Zone-based pass blocking, but I don't believe there's any examples of it in the pros, and to be honest, I know little about it.
I do know that the Packers utilize the ZBS only as a run scheme.
The article you have been reading is really pretty good. The base concepts in ZB are 1) double teams at the point of attack, from which one O-linemen rolls off to attack a LB at the next level, and on stays engaged to continue movement of the D-lineman. Which linemen stays with the block and which releases depends on the LB movement. 2) Cut-blocking on the backside of the play to take the pursuing defense off their feet and create a crease for the RB to cutback to should the playside or frontside (the direction the RB originally is heading towards) be shut down.
.
Pass blocking is not an innately aggressive undertaking- you do not charge forward at defensive player when you're in pass pro. You let them come to you. If you are seeing offensive linemen charging off the line of scrimmage to engage a LB during a pass play, it's a sure sign that the play was called to be a run and the QB saw something he liked on the perimeter, and silently signaled a WR to get ready for a quick pass or a deep go route, without the rest of the offense being alerted.

Thanks wgbeethree and Oppy. Feedback MUCH appreciated.
