Fan Fest Here We Come

 Begging works.

Thanks to some ardent die-hard Cheesehead TV readers, Corey and I will be making the trip to Green Bay in a little under two weeks for Fan Fest at Lambeau Field. That's right, we'll be there covering the event in all its Green and Gold glory, meeting Packer players both new and old, attending Dom Capers' presentation on the new defense and, of course, trying to ask Ted Thompson how he puts up with it all. So be on the lookout for two guys passing out Cheesehead TV gear. Chances are - that's us.

On a side note, though our patrons wish to remain anonymous I would like to say publicly that Corey and I are overwhelmed by the offer and their generosity. And on a personal note, I would like to thank them simply for the chance to meet Lynn Dickey, who was my hero when I was growing up. I can't believe there's a chance I get to meet the man. So thank you, thank you, thank you.

My wife asked me this morning why he meant so much to me if he played on such terrible teams. I told her that many of the Packer passing records we witnessed Favre break over the years were Lynn Dickey's. The man was an unbelievable passer. I used to play imaginary games of football outside in the backyard by myself (yes- by myself) with my Packer helmet on and I would ALWAYS pretend I was Dickey. His talent was completely wasted having Starr as his coach, on a team with no defense and no running game. But damn, when he was tossing it to Lofton, JJ and Coffman - those were fun games to watch...

Indeed they were fun Aaron. I had a Packer helmet too and, believe it or not, played games by myself (well before Dickey and company tho). That experience should have been a red flag for the direction my life was going tho. When you play by yourself but still can't avoid a sack it doesn't bode well for the future

That is brilliant. My mother likes to tell the story of how she came outside one day to find me lying on the ground, face up, with my helmet on of course, just lying there. She said "Aaron, get up off the ground..." and I replied "But mom, Lynn Dickey is injured!" as if she should have known the severity of the situation. ;)

Guys - my advice is find the line that Lynne Dickey will be signing autographs in and get in line a few hours early (that's right, i said HOURS). I went a few years ago to meet my childhood hero: John Brockington. Waited in line 2 hours and when we got within 20 fans, he switched out for Aaron Kampman (nice guy, but not a legend... yet). As luck would have it, ran into Jon B in an elavator later in the day. I said hi and told him how long I had waited - he smiled and as he was about to sign my picture, his agent pulled him away and said "remember your contract - no random autographs". Hopefully, you will have better luck...

backthepack - thanks for the heads up. I have no illusions. The organization has also changed its policy since then. They hand out tickets for autograph sessions at random and then have a time where you can 'swap' with other people. I won't die if I don't meet him, but it would be great. Just being there will be a dream come true...

Now I'm really sad. I like Brockington even more than Dickey. That's a terrible story

Sorry, didn't mean to be a downer. It was a fun weekend (how can it not be when you're at the frozen tundra?!), and my opinion of Brockington wasn't changed (his agent was the jerk). Sounds like you have your expectations in check - you will have a blast!
