Emptying the Notebook

  • Who is responsible for scheduling the Titans as the final foe of the preseason for the Packers every year, and why do they still have a job? With McCarthy and Fisher having such disparate goals in the final meaningless game, it’s an exercise in futility. How in the world can you possibly evaluate your rookie quarterbacks when they’re being given exactly half a second before their offensive line implodes due to the fact that they are second and third stringers facing Albert Haynseworth, Kyle Vanden Bosch and Jevon Kearse. Absurd. Coaches can burn the offensive tape, because the first three quarters are worthless.
  • Desmond Bishop and Abdul Hodge will be heard from in the regular season, and not because of an injury to a starter. Wow.
  • Will Brett Favre ever shut up? Good grief.
  • Thompson continues to choose ‘his guys’ over holdovers which is a good thing.
  • That said, when will he find an interior offensive lineman worth a damn?
  • Really interesting to see how McCarthy came out against the Broncos after the 49er fiasco. Against the Niners, Coach used lots of spread, lots of multiple receivers and basically expected Rodgers to operate as Favre did last year. Needing to make sure Rodgers had a good start against the Broncos, McCarthy went to many more two tight end sets, with a lot more tight formations. I would expect to see a lot of the latter in the first month of the season.
  • If Pickett doesn’t play and play well on September 8th, Adrian Peterson will have over 200 yards. In the first half.
  • How on Earth is Joey Haynos not on the final 53?
  • Does it scare anyone else how much this season hinges on Bob Sanders?
  • Matt Flynn will have a ton of trouble completing passes between the hashmarks.
  • Can someone get Aaron Kampman some help? Please? The man will be worn out by October at this rate.
  • If Aaron Rodgers gets hurt…nope. I refuse to think about it.
  • Tramon Williams looks fantastic.
  • Brian Brohm does not.
  • How can I get myself to sleep the next eight nights?
  • Go Pack.

They may be thinking Haynos will clear waivers. I remember hearing Larry McCarren(denver game) question why they weren’t using Haynos as much..and then he said probably because they didnt want to give tape on him so they could sign him to practice squad

The Titans provide the perfect last game to evauate rookies. BESIDES the quarterbacks you get to see how the linemen, linebackers, safeties, WR etc play against “real” competttion. Those who “stick” will be asked to step in and play against first stringers….don’t the coaches want to know who has the potential to stand up?

Double vodka martini usually works for me.

A martini? What are you, a Chargers fan?

Al, that works in theory, but how in the world can you evaluate any aspect of your offense when the most important part of the unit can’t take two steps before he has two defenders in his lap? Great, the wide receiver made it three steps off the line and almost into his break – what the hell does that accomplish that hasn’t been seen a thousand times in practice already? As far as the defense – yes, they had a good showing against one of the more sub-standard offenses in the league. Again – the Titans? Every year? If the goal is to evaluate all positions, surely it’s in the Packers’ interests to be judging their players on an even field with cuts looming a mere few days away? They need quality film to go over and they sure didn’t get it Thursday night.
