Eagles Sign Cullen Jenkins

From Adam Schefter:

Rich get richer: Former Packers DT Cullen Jenkins reached agreement with the Eagles on a five year, $25 million deal.

Also, this nugget from Tom Silverstein:

Am told #packers were never in the Cullen Jenkins bidding.

This is interesting in light of the fact that Jenkins’ contract with the Eagles allows them to cut him after one year and only pay him $4 million.

As we went over this morning – this is all part of the plan.

Watch for second year defensive ends Mike Neal and C.J. Wilson to take on much more active roles for Dom Capers’ defensive line.

  1. Tom says:

I’ve got to say, with some of the talent on these teams in the NFC South and now teams like the Eagles and the Patriots that were already playoff teams making huge acquisitions it’s going to take a reeeally good team to win the Superbowl this year.

I’m glad there’s a reeeally good team in TitleTown.

  2. Bearmeat says:

Yep, the Iggles are going to be really good. But “the favorite” rarely wins. Remember how many years DAL and NE were picked to be in the SB?

That means the Iggles aren’t a for sure thing – and neither are we.

    • MarkinMadison says:

IMHO Andy Reid is a way better coach, and the Eagles are a way smarter organization, than those folks in Dallas. NE is turning into the Redskins, chasing the old and overpriced in a desparate attempt to get another ring before Brady’s window shuts. That NE D needed to be revamped. We’ll see if their moves the last two years have paid off or not.

  3. PackersThad says:

I understand Ted has a master plan, but when I hear about that 1 year 4 mill option, you wonder how the Packers could not do that for Jenkins.

    • brian says:

I have to guess that too many bridges have been burned at this point. Taking on Jenkins for 1 more year at $4M would have been a very reasonable risk.

  4. Cole O says:

Wow the Eagles are really puttin all their chips in on this season. Is Andy Reid thinking about hanging the mike up, or could it be because they dont think Vick will be able to play at high level for much longer?

  5. CaLIPACKFAN says:

The eagles now have as good a secondary as the pack. I’m scarred of the eagles this season.

    • packsmack25 says:

Debatable how good their secondary actually is.

      • brian says:

Remains to be seen how they mesh as a secondary, but it’s hard to argue any team having 3 more talented CB’s on the roster than Aso, Samuel and DRC.

        • Jay says:

It’s also not a given that Samuel is going to stay. There’s rumors he might be moved in a trade.

Even still Tramon, Woodson, Shields, Collins > Asomugha, DRC, Samuel

      • Josh says:

Aso is the best cover corner in the NFL for the last 4 years. There have been 112 passes attempted at this man. Not completions, attempts. Samuel has been the best at grabbing INTs, he’s on a HOF pace. DRC is the weak link, but the 1-2 of Eagles is superior to the 1-2 of Packers. The 3rd is a toss up, b/c there’s no guarantee shields will continue being a surprise. We all know how great tramonstar was, but he wasn’t close to Aso

        • packsmack25 says:

Nnamdi is mortal. No one passed his way because he was the ONLY relatively decent player on some horrible, horrible Raiders defenses.

Asante Samuel goes after INTs, which is why he is terrible. He cost the Patriots their undefeated Super Bowl.

DRC is more likely to get burned than defend a pass, and his stats bear that out.

Also, the Samuel/Nnamdi>Woodson/Tramon argument holds no water…

Eagles D looks good… on paper. So did the Heat’s starting 5. I’ll take our D every day and twice on Sunday’s, Secondary included. Simma don na.

  7. PackersRS says:

Never since the 2010 Jets, 2009 Vikings, 2008 Giants, 2007 Patriots, 2006 Chargers, there has been such a great team in August. I think, as history shows, we can already declare them this year’s Super Bowl Champions.
