Driver Says He Has No Plans To Retire

The veteran Packers receiver made it very clear to local reporters today that he plans on playing football in 2012.

After last nights game, there was a lot of speculation both from the Packers fan base and the media that covers the team that we could very well have witnessed Donald Driver's last game as a Green Bay Packer.

While that may end up being true, it won't be because the all-time Packers leading receiver is relaxing somewhere in retirement.

Per Ty Dunne with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

WR Donald Driver has no plans to retire. If the Packers don't want him back, he's willing to play elsewhere."I have plenty (of years). The thing is, it's not up to me. The Packers have to make that decision."

I think its pretty clear the Packers have already made their decision.

The team gave hefty raises during the season to both Tori Gurley and Diondre Borel after other teams started sniffing around them trying to take them away from the Packers.

The Packers didn't do that because they plan on bringing back Donald Driver.

That's a shame, but probably for the best of the team. He should retire a Packer.

Areas the Pack needs to get younger: DL, LB, CB. WR is one of the groups that is stacked with youth and talent. DD needs to stay one more year as a team mentor. Coaching doesn't all come from the coaches. Gurley? Borel? Draft choice? Probably not going to beat 37 catches and 6 TDs anyway.

Maybe not next year, but is one last year of DD worth losing Borel and Gurley? It's hard to say.

Great game from DD yesterday. Three incredibly catches. I hope we bring him back. He's still got something in the tank.

My heart says the Packers should keep him, my head says the Packers would do better to use that roster spot for a developing player.

If yesterday was Driver's last game as Packer, it was a fitting way to go out.

My favorite Driver performance was against Carolina in the 4-12 season. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/200510030car.htm

The Pack were down big. Driver made a huge catch and you could see this half-disgusted look on his face like John Belushi in the big nothing-is-over-until-we-say-it-is-speech. He was the only one on the field that actually believed that the Packers could come back and win. And he almost rallied the team to a huge comeback. Anyhow, the rally fell short, but it was an inspiring performance.

Anyone can play great when the team is up by two touchdowns. Driver is one of those special players that never gives up, even in what seems like a hopeless situation.

This!

Driver is one of those special Packers who is the definition of what Packer Football is all about.

I think Jennings and Nelson are pretty grounded. I don't think it is necessary to keep DD as "inspiration". They used a linebacker to cover DD a lot of the time yesterday, if I'm not mistaken. I didn't see much separation either. Wide receiver and corner are the two positions you can't get by with limited speed.

Regardless- while the game was still in doubt- the one who came through on what few "big" plays we had was Donald Driver. --

That's what I saw, fish/crane. As did everybody watching.

I saw it too, him pushing off on a linebacker in the end zone to create enough separation to make a catch. I think DD was one of the all time great Packers. I wish Ahman Green and Al Harris could still play for the Pack. When you are a 4th or 5th wide receiver, your main job is special teams. I think DD and Clifton will give way to younger guys next year. I too wish they could last forever.

You ain't gotsta go home but you can't stay here. Sucks, but the writing is on the wall. A veteran presence like that isn't easily replaced. Thanks for everything Donald, especially your effort yesterday.

DD is my favorite Packer of all time. Great guy. Great team-mate. Great talent. If yesterday was Donald's last game, it will be fitting. He was the only member of the offense worth watching yesterday. So happy we got him a Super Bowl. Unlike Bert, I doubt anything less than a classy departure.
