Discussions Take Place to Name Street After Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy

Officials in Ashwaubenon are considering re-naming Potts Ave. after the Packers coach.

On Tuesday evening, the Ashwabenon Plan Commission discussed naming Potts Ave. near Lambeau Field after Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy.

Plans for naming a street after McCarthy have taken place ever since the Packers won Super Bowl XLV in 2011.

An earlier attempt to re-name Ashland Ave., which stretches from Green Bay to Ashwaubenon to DePere, failed after many complaints of the financial ramifications associated with businesses changing their address.

Potts Ave. runs adjacent to the Don Hutson Center, the Packers' practice facility.

“This area is in an area of transition, so there are some blank buildings and there are buildings that are going to change rapidly, so we thought this would be the best area,” said village president Mike Aubinger to Fox 11 in Green Bay.

A public hearing will reportedly take place July 22, after which the village board can take a vote.
