Demovsky. DEMOVSKY!

Seriously.

From his chat over at PackersNews.com this afternoon:

[Comment From Geoff]
Am I a bad Packer fan if I feel like hating Favre for the number of years he plays with the Vikings x 2? If they happen to win the SB, it would be number of years x 10.
Rob Demovsky: Shouldn't you be mad at the Packers -- not Favre -- for letting him go? Let me ask you this: If you worked for K-Mart and they decided they didn't want you anymore, why not go work for WalMart? Isn't it basically the same thing?

No, Rob, actually, it's not. It's not even close.

What is this, Come-Up-With-A-Horrible-Working-Man-Analogy week? Did I miss a memo? How awful is that, seriously? Am I going blind? Dance with me.

GEH! Demovsky completely undermined the whole chat when he did that. His awful awful analogy got my blood boiling and I couldn't stop myself from telling him he's flat out wrong.

I just don't understand why people must insist that Packers fans care about Favre playing for another team. Not many people do at all. Most of us cheered for Favre on the Jets. It's that Favre wants to go to the VIKINGS that's the problem. Whether he realizes it or not, he's spitting in the faces of all of the fans that have basically paid his salary for the last 16 years through jersey and ticket sales and television viewership. That's the problem.

PS. Sorry for referring another commercial site, but I couldn't resist. I'm going to buy this shirt:

Eh, I've reached the point where I honestly don't care who he plays for. I have always believed that players should play for as long as they want, because it will be pretty difficult to find something as exhilarating as playing professional sports. Plus, who is anyone to tell an athlete to hang it up?

___

Anyway, I think it sucks that he's going to play for Minnesota for the simple fact that I can't root for the guy anymore. Everyone seems to focus on the belief that Brett wants to "stick it" to TT, MM, and the GBP. Well, this may be true, but it is also undeniable that the Vikings are the best fit for Brett Favre.

___

While Demovsky's analogy was awful, his premise is correct. The fact is the Packers didn't take Favre back. Regardless of how they arrived at their decision, the Packers were the ones who said, "Sorry Brett, not this time." Therefore, Brett can sign with whomever he chooses. What other team would give him as good of a chance to play well and win a SB? The fact is that the Vikings are the perfect storm of everything Favre could possibly want in a potential suitor: WCO (check); dominant O-Line (check); great RB (check); coach who will let him do whatever he wants (check); home field that is protected from the elements (check); chance to screw over TT and MM twice a year (check).

___

Finally, I am not mad at anyone in this situation. I'll admit that I was pissed the Packers for not taking him back, but time and Aaron Rodgers have caused me to take a few huge steps back from that initial stance. As for Brett, I'm not pissed at him for wanting to keep playing football, for whatever the reason may be. However, this time around I won't be rooting for him to succeed. In fact, I will be rooting for CM3 to take his head off, just like he was any other divisional rival.

I've seen a bear fan post this EXACT SAME analogy, with the Kmart and Wallmart, but in different order, at packerforum.com, APROX. TWO WEEKS AGO. I think Demovsky's been reading some forums. It's just a stupid, stupid analogy. You would have to disconsider that this is a sport, that there are fans involved, that they're much more than consumers, to make it work. And even then it wouldn't.

Keith, when is it a "right" for a player to make a season ending play, skip offseason activities and workouts, refuse to compete for his job, and in return expect to be released from contract and instantly become a free agent? I'd say in the real world, you earn your chances. Ever heard of non-compete agreements? They even offered the golden parachute as an option to playing.

If K-Mart dont want you, Walmart wont touch you with a 10 foot pole. This is more like posing for Playboy and then posing for Hustler.

bomdad, I wasn't referring to the specifics of last summer. Obviously last summer he didn't have a right to pick his landing spot since the Packers controlled his rights. But since the Packers didn't want him, it was reasonable to expect we would end up in this exact situation. And please don't talk to me about the real world and earning chances. The real world has more to do with politicking than sports does. In the NFL, once a veteran loses a step, a team has no problem unceremoniously dumping his ass on the street. In the real world, all too often it is about who you know, rather than what you can do.

ViQueen = Enemy

Favre = ViQueen

Favre = ________

I hated Logwell and Sharper after they became Queens. Logic leads me to how I will view Favre this season. I hope he is turned into an ink blot on the Queens Cheap Azz Astro Turf floor in the first game.

Jack - please don't buy Favre Vikings apparel. You'll only be supporting their team. If you dump purple paint on existing Favre Packers or Jets apparel, that'd be cool though. I may pay to see that.

I agree that Demovsky’s article was a bad analogy.
-------------------------------------------

I would also say that if indeed Favre’s reasoning for returning is primarily based on getting “revenge”, then its a bad reason to come back. Even if the Vikings sweep the Packers this season, and Favre plays well, it doesn’t prove anything.
-------------------------------------------------

Thompson made the right decision when he chose Rodgers over Favre. And nothing Favre does on the field from now on will change that.
-----------------------------------------------------
All that being said, I don’t take it as personally as some fans do, that he wants to stick it to the Packers. If that’s what he wants to do, fine. His beef is with Ted Thompson; not me, or any other fan for that matter.
