Just some stuff I saw today during practice, not meant to be exhaustive in the slightest.

Injuries

There may have been some question as to whether practice was even going to take place after the league made an announcement earlier in the morning that there had been an issue with false positives coming from the overnight testing lab in New Jersey. Matt LaFleur indicated after practice that the issue did not pose a threat to the Packers and they had taken the necessary steps to ensure that no one took the field without clearing the proper protocols. 

Speaking of Covid 19 protocols, after practice Jace Sternberger confirmed that he did test positive for the virus at the start of camp. He indicated that he did not have symptoms and simply had to wait while going through the protocols to get out on the field. He also said his recovery process was not as difficult as some others who have had to deal with the virus. 

Adrian Amos was back at practice and a full participant. Montravious Adams was present without a walking boot but was a strict observer. 

Za'Darius Smith and Jaire Alexander continued to sit out. 

At one point, Raven Greene went into the Hutson Center with a member of the training staff, but he returned and finished practice. 

Bombs Away

With the Packers in the thick of installing things on both sides of the ball, today must have been the Deep Shot install. Rodgers repeatedly went to deep to Davante Adams, mostly with success. Pretty much everyone in the young secondary took turns getting beat by Adams. 

Speaking of Adams, with Jaire Alexander continuing to look on, Kevin King has been getting all the reps against Davante in one-on-ones the last two days and they have been outstanding battles. King took two out of three today from the Packers best wideout. 

Kamal Martin Announces His Presence With Authority

For the second practice in a row, rookie linebacker Kamal Martin was everywhere and arriving in a bad mood when he got there. From blowing up an attempted lead block by Josiah Deguara and putting the fellow rookie on the ground to absolutely exploding into the hole and taking down Dexter Williams for a negative gain in the live team work that ended practice (LaFleur ended practice by dismissing the vets and having rookies and many younger players go live in almost a scrimmage setting. Its as close as some of these young guys are going to get to preseason work.) Kamal Martin was a man on fire today. As LaFleur indicated after practice, there are certainly some mistakes mixed in, as you'd expect from any rookie in his first training camp, but if Martin can continue to have practices like these, it's going to be hard to keep him out of the defensive rotation. 

Rashan Gary Is Going To Be A Problem For Opponents 

With Za'Darius Smith continuing to miss practice, Rashan Gary has been making the most of his opportunities. In the early part of red zone work today, he was constantly in the backfield. He started with three rushes where he ended up in Rodgers' lap, including one sweet inside move against David Bakhtiari. In addition to his pass rush work, he's looked like an absolute bull setting the edge in the run game. Gary was solid at the start of camp, but he's starting to come on with increased reps. 

Aaron Rodgers Is Still Aaron Rodgers

The last work the vets got in today was the two minute drill. One of the funniest parts of the day was hearing the defense yell "Draw! Draw!" from the sidelines because its an almost cliched start-of--the-tow-minute-drill call. The offense promptly started with...a delay. Pretty close. 

After the initial comedy though, Aaron Rodgers went to work, picking apart the defense and getting the offense in position for a Mason Crosby field goal. After practice, LaFleaur mentioned it was classic Rodgers and most certainly was. From directing traffic prior to the snap, to hustling up to the line to clock it after a completion to flipping an almost no-look toss to Jamaal Williams when it looked like Rodgers was about to take off up the middle after the line parted in front of him, it was one of those classic drives that felt like Rodgers was just a step ahead of everyone. We most likely only have a few more years of Rodgers in Green and Gold, so I'm definitely going to spend as much time as I can appreciating his making things that can be incredibly difficult look like second nature. 

Young Pass Rushers Turning Heads

Another practice, another set of young pass rushers making plays. Both Tipa Galeai and Tim Williams had a handful of strong pass rushing reps in both team and drill work, including one classic "meet me at the quarterback." There's still a long way to go but both Williams and Galeai have a chance to make the decision at outside linebacker difficult for Brian Gutekunst in a couple weeks.
