PHOENIX—When New England Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis was excused from the Pro Bowl because his team qualified for the Super Bowl, Sam Shields of the Green Bay Packers took his spot on the roster.

Revis is a fan of his fellow cornerback based upon comments made this week in Arizona.

"Sam, from what I hear, him making plays or the games I watch sometimes when I'm home, he makes plays," said Revis. "He's a big part of Green Bay's defense."

Shields' appearance in the Pro Bowl this past Sunday marked the first of his career. He made three tackles, representing Team Carter, albeit in a 32-28 loss.

Statistically speaking, Shields has had better seasons than the campaign he put forth in 2014.

None of his 40 tackles, nine passes broken up or two interceptions were career-highs. He did, however, tie a career high, making 14 regular-season starts, missing two games due to injury.

The Packers made Shields one of the cornerstones they would build the defense around this past past offseason when they signed him to a four-year, $39 million deal.

Based on his $9.75 million salary, Shields is tied for the sixth-highest paid cornerback in the NFL, according to Spotrac.com.
