Cory's Corner: Muzzling Mike McCarthy doesn't matter

I’m not sure why Packers coach Mike McCarthy is making news for saying he won’t be saying very much.

McCarthy and general manager Ted Thompson are a perfect match that way. Whenever these two guys get near a dais, the information that is given is usually cleaned and rinsed in an effort to erase any speck of juiciness.

McCarthy recently said that he wouldn’t divulge as much information to media members. Yawn. What nuggets has he been giving before? Following wins he praises Aaron Rodgers, the offensive line and usually a star defender. Following losses he points the finger at himself, says that some players weren’t prepared and highlights a late play like a missed field goal or a whiffed tackle.

If you’re looking for detail with a dose of life added in, you’re not getting it from McCarthy.

The only problem I have with this decision is that the Packers have their own media arm. Why give everyone this great detailed information when Green Bay would rather control the message?

The Packers, and for that matter many sports teams, are hiring their own reporters and editors. Why waste so much time with outside media when you can feed the news to your own media, which breaks the story.

Is McCarthy as bad as Bill Belichick? No way, because at least McCarthy annunciates much better.

But it signals that times are changing. It means that media consumers will have to be more savvy about where the message is coming from.

McCarthy isn’t limiting media coverage. But the Packers just want to report it themselves first.

Every things about promotion and money. To much propaganda will produce " irritating rhetoric". I say public opinion won't matter! They're stopping any squeaky wheel. I see malice!

Squeaky wheel may get the oil, but it's the first wheel replaced.

No doubt in this age of social media, (twitter, Facebook, etc.), the Packers believe that this will be the most effective approach to manage the message and the information before it becomes out of control. The Packers do a pretty good job of minimizing leaks, especially with a player's injury status, but given the size of the staff and the variety of access to communication I think that the proverbial "genie" is already out of the bottle regardless of how much "less" information MM chooses to divulge. MM does have some advantage due to the fact that the Wisconsin media is much more polite and respectful than their counterparts here in New York where the media is absolutely relentless all the time in their quest to "break" even the most insignificant stories. In any case this just means to me that we will spend another season wondering when and if our injured players will see the field again. Thanks, Since '61

The Packers press conferences are already like the company that advertises a one day sale and the customers show up to the event where the product is already sold out 1 minute after the doors open....and yet boast about what they never received. : )

After seeing the media try to destroy Donald Trump, the people's choice, on a daily/hourly basis with constant lies and propaganda, why the hell would TT and MM want to speak or trust any media that isn't in their control. I would do the same thing. The media doesn't even report the news, they now create it by use of twisting words, anonymous sources, lies and half truths. In fact the media these days are so corrupt and dishonest that if I were TT and MM I would go a step further and ban ALL media from even entering 1265 Lombardi until they can prove they will actually report the news honestly. Some of these media people should be in prison for the disgusting vile things they say.

I heard what Trump said. Nothing and I mean NOTHING he has ever said is racist or indefensible. It's called speaking from the heart or being honest and not being politically correct which prior to Trump, was unheard of from a politician. You made my point. You heard a few clips taken out of context by the msm and you believe it along with millions of other people. That's how damaging the media can be D Thomas. We can at least agree that you and others like the ones that harassed Rodgers can be influenced to a certain extent by the media. By the way it was more than just "some". It was split right down the middle at 50/50. That's a lot of people that hated Thompson and wanted his head on a platter. To this day I don't know how he was able to fight thru the b.s. media.

I want to know who they are? (many sports teams, are hiring their own reporters and editors.) Make the list public. Time for credentials.
