Contract Details are in for Donald Driver's New Deal

ESPN's Andrew Brandt has the contract numbers for Donald Driver's new contract.

The contract details are in for Donald Driver's restructured deal.

According to Andrew Brandt of ESPN and National Football Post, Driver signed a one-year deal with a $500,000 roster bonus front-loaded to next week. The total amount of the deal is pegged at $2.5 million.

Driver was scheduled to make over $5 million in 2012 under his old contract, including a $1.5 million bonus due on the first day of training camp. Driver's new deal represents a sharp pay cut, although it may be less severe than many have assumed it would end up being.

The $500,000 bonus due in the new contract still makes it likely that Driver's spot on the 53-man roster is secure for 2012, and the one-year deal suggests that Driver is likely planning to retire after next season. Barring any kind of major injury this summer, Driver should start the 2012 season with Green Bay.

His deal is likely filled with several contract incentives, including game-to-game roster bonuses.

Last season, the 37-year-old Driver registered his lowest numbers since '02 in both receptions (37) and yards (445).

8-)

Love that guaranteed $$$. Ted never had any intention but to bring him back. What a wise, wise man Ted is. It's nice to have a guy running the show that 'gets it'.

A half-mil due next week.
I would say that the message being sent is clear. There is little doubt that TT/MM ever envisioned a "wannabbee PS WR" bumping DD off the 53. Nice to see TT/MM are making decisions based on reality.
