Nick Collins won't be playing for the Green Bay Packers in 2012, and if his agent had his choice, the former safety won't be playing for any NFL team next season.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, agent Alan Herman wants his client to retire, even going as far as offering Collins an advisory job at his firm if the former All-Pro safety wants it.

He'd be really good at it. He was a top player in this league, someone that players can look up to. He'd be great mentoring those guys. He's got a gift for that. And it would keep him out of harm's way. He wouldn't have to tackle anybody.

A week after being released by the Packers, Collins continues to weigh his options moving forward. Among those include continuing to play, and Herman told Silverstein that there are teams that have reached out to Collins. No team names were mentioned in the report.

There would still be plenty of hurdles for Collins playing in 2012.

He and his family would ultimately have to make the decision to resume his playing career for any team to dig further, an obvious risk considering he's only months removed from spinal fusion surgery. Collins is not expected to make his decision for another week or two. It's also more than possible that Collins would fail a physical for any interested team, just as he did with for Green Bay.

The Packers let Collins go last week after they felt uncomfortable with Collins continuing to play. A freak injury in Week 2 of last season caused a bulging disc between the C3 and C4 vertebrae, and it was very clear throughout the offseason that the Packers' brass was weary of risking a player to a life-threatening injury.

Collins isn't rushing any decision.

"He's really just spending time with his family," Herman told Silverstein. "He hasn't decided what to do. When we've spoken, I've just told him, 'Tell me what you want me to do.' He really has to get a sense of what he wants to do. He said he would take his time before he decided anything. It's a big decision."
