Collins Is Officially Pissing Me Off

I'm sorry. I've tried, I really have. I've tried giving Collins the benefit of the doubt, especially in light of the circumstances. But enough is enough.

Who the hell does Collins think he is? He is being paid a little more than $3 million to play for the Green Bay Packers in 2009. But that fact has not stopped Collins from pouting about wanting talks to begin, and begin immediately, on an extension to his existing contract. He has shown his displeasure by staying away from all the installs of a new, complicated, defensive scheme. He has now shown up for mini-camp only because it is mandatory and he does not wish to be fined. And now, he is making rumblings about holding out during training camp.

If Collins follows through on that threat, he is dumber than I ever thought - and trust me, I already thought he was pretty damn dumb.

collins = tool

don't cut him... he'd just end up playing somewhere else. let him sit. then fine his a$$ for every day he isn't doing what he's supposed to be doing.

how can he figure he's making any money here? if he sits and pouts he gets passed on the depth chart. now he goes into free agency with one good year, a couple average years, and a year where he pouted under his belt.

if he mans- up and plays (and plays well) he only makes himself MORE attractive to MORE teams.

maybe he isn't confident that he'll be able to duplicate last year's performance. i'm not sure i am either.

Am I the only one that don't see a problem in this? He wants a new deal. He won't miss any mandatory workouts. He will not hold out. He's mantaining his shape. He's studying the playbook. Bedard reported he even did punt returns.
If he's not hurting himself or the team, what's the problem with wanting more money or a longer contract? Just read this piece from Seifert: http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nfcnorth/0-12-88/Come-on--now--Would-Nick-Col...
I'm much more concerned with Greg Jennings...

This isn't a surprise. Andrew Brandt had an article about the Pro Bowl Problem back in February about how Collins would start showing dissatisfaction and start pursuing a better contract once he got back from the Pro Bowl. It would be something interesting to ask Brandt about if you ever get the chance.

I don't know why GB should be void of contract issues with players. There isn't an NFL team that isn't dealing with some kind of player disatisfaction & a contract. It's a big-bucks business. A fan could go crazy thinking too much about all the off-field issues.
_____
No matter what there will be 11 players on defense (with or without Collins) on the field come game 1.

You're right woody, but fans love to talk about something in the offseason. I get a kick out of those who rip a player like Grant or Tramon who doesnt sign a tender for $450k, like its money out of their own pocket and the tender is equitable to that players resume. Shoot, after taxes, union dues, agents cut, thats like getting a one year 100k job.
