Packer Update has a nugget at the end of their latest “Shhh…Here’s What We’re Hearing” section about Colin Cole turning down an extension offer from the Packers this past December to the tune of $7 million over three years.
First of all, I treat everything from Packer Update, with their abundance of anonymous quotes and “insider” speculation (witness the first sentence of the update linked to above) with great suspicion. But as I’ve written before, they seem to be right more often than they are wrong.
Secondly, if Colin Cole did indeed turn down the Packers offer, it tells me that he has a greatly inflated sense of his worth to a football team. I would not have minded bringing him back at what can be described as a “Packer-Friendly” rate, but I also wouldn’t mind replacing him via the draft or free agency. As I said in a comment section earlier, Cole had by far his best year this year in what can only be described as a thoroughly mediocre career.
