Clements Reportedly Applies For Penn State Job

From CollegeFootballTalk:

The Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach has reportedly taken steps to ensure he will be a hot commodity, at least as it concerns one job.

Citing unnamed sources, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that Clements has applied for the vacancy at Penn State.  Clements sent his résumé to the six-member search committee, which was officially announced last week and charged with finding a permanent replacement for Joe Paterno.

Clements is a western Pennsylvania native whose coaching career has been spent mostly at the professional level.  As noted by the Tribune-Review, Clements in 2004 was a candidate for the vacancy at Notre Dame, his alma mater and where he spent four seasons as the QBs coach in the mid-90s.

Love/hate to see coaches leave like this. He’ll be the first of many, I’m sure.

I do not like this one bit, but hope for the best for him. Aaron Rodgers goes out of his way to credit him all the time, so he’s doing something right.

If Jason Garrett can coach the cowboys, Clements can coach PSU.

If the guy is leaving for a HC job, there’s nothing you can do. Good luck to him if he gets it.

I don’t love this, of course. He has done such great work with Aaron. I just hope they find a good replacement.

Fortunately, McCarthy was a QB coach so hopefully he’ll know what to look for.

I always thought McCarthy was a TE or T…. how funny he dosent look anything like an ex quarterback to me

  6. Mojo says:

Maybe Darren Perry will beat him out for this job.

Beat him out or beat him up for it? The octagon awaits.

Seriously, w/ the Packers success assistant coaches leaving is inevitable, esp w/ the quality of this staff. Luckily we only lost Jimmy Robinson last year and he was ably replaced by Edgar.

MM has shown an ability to assemble a great staff and I judge he’ll continue this trend as coaches move on to bigger and better positions. Having MM, the talent on the field, TT upstairs, and a great org makes for a nice shingle to hang out for prospective coaches.

Even though it’s a college HC position, wouldn’t they be more inclined to go after a person with OC/DC experience at some level in college even before a Charlie Weis OC > HC Notre Dame re-enactment and then a position coach.

Not to say Clements would fail or succeed…just asking opinion and thoughts.

  8. Bohj says:

Dang it. I mention one thing about Clements on these pages and he locks a solid job. Good for him. Well deserved. I guess the silver lining would be that Aaron has learned all he can. I mean seriously….. can the guy be any better than now? We still have him to help coach the noob QBs as they come in. Harrell has two yrs under his tutalage. And we’ll see what awaits for Flynn.

  9. Jack says:

A cloud is going to hang over that Penn State football program (and the university) for years to come. Can’t understand why anyone would want to take over under those conditions, unless they are masochistic.
