Clay Matthews: We've Got All the Pieces in Place

The Packers linebacker looked ahead to the future in an interview with ESPN.

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews was interviewed on ESPN's SportsCenter on Sunday, and predictably, the disappointment of the NFC Championship game loss came up with reporter Lisa Salters.

"It hurts, especially the older you get in your career," said Matthews. "You realize how difficult it is to get to the NFC Championship game, let alone the Super Bowl."

The Packers linebacker also looked ahead to the future.

"We've got all the pieces in place," said Matthews.

What wasn't addressed in-depth, however, was why Matthews didn't play the final few drives of regulation in the loss to the Seattle Seahawks:

I don't give a shit what he has to say right now, unless it's addressing his conspicuous absence last Sunday, when we needed him.

Sherman was playing with one arm hanging... and Clay is living it up at the PB.

I thought he said that he was on the sideline due to a multitude of issues that the trainers were able to work out by the time OT came around.

I read that as "we thought the game was won, and since I was dinged up they didn't want me to go back in and risk further injury in garbage time, because Super Bowl. I mean, it's not like they're going to score a TD, convert an onside kick, and then score another TD when they only have 5 minutes left."

Why he waited till OT to come back in instead of after the onside kick, who knows? We'll probably never get a straight answer. The whole team seemed to be in disorganized disbelief after that.

Hey, at least we got to see Jordy catch a TD in the post season last night.

Hey he got tired from Mike putting on the pass rush becaues we have no pass rush, and Dom Capers putting him back in the middle because we lack speed at ILB.

Have you noticed that there hasn't been a press conference yet? Or why? I realize that you're especially entitled and know more than everyone, but STFU till you actually find something out.

Him beleiving they have the pieces in place is a very positive thing. I disagree and see a team that can't even decide how to use him in the line up and were wondering why the wheels fell off.
Too much Mike Mike Mike trying to run the whole show. To me that is the biggest problem, Mike wants to be God and he ain't that smart

Immafubared,

The other day I saw an obvious Viking fan post at Pro Football Talk using the same unusual screen name that you use. It was quite a coinkydink that a "Packer fan" on Cheeseheadtv.com that rarely has anything good to say about the Packers would happen upon the same unusual screen name.

And by "rarely has anything good to say" I mean, it is exceedingly tough to put a negative spin on the way Matthews was used on defense over the 2nd half of the season when the Packer defense was playing so well. But somehow, you found a way. It's almost like you're a Viking fan pretending to be a Packer fan for some reason that begs the question of should a psychologist be involved. I mean, if a Viking fan wants to insult the Packers, one might think they would do so proudly. Unless they really are ashamed of the Vikings. Which is certainly understandable, I reckon.

Just an observation.

Couldn't have said it better Hank. Just check his past posts - before the season and early on it is always the Vikings are getting better since they drafted so well, and the Packers are going down. As the season goes on, it gets a little more quiet each week... It's clear where the alliances are...

Imma, I agree with Hank, maybe you should seek professional help. I really am wondering why Vikings fans would bother to go on other boards and bash other teams - you should be discussing your own team on your own boards.

But then again, I am not surprised. I was in Minneapolis quite a few times, not just as a Packer fan, but if you go there and watch Baseball or Hockey as a fan of the visiting team, well let's just say it is not pleasant. the only place worse is Philadelphia. But Vikings fans especially have lots of issues, let's just say that. And not because they are Vikings fans, but one can see that by the way they behave...

I agree Hank , it's very sad the way Vikings fans always attack the Packers , I don't see it much from Beard and Lions fans but Vikings fans never let up I almost feel bad for them , watch when the Packers cut or don't resign players how fast the Vilings will look to sign them . Very sad indeed.
