Christl Shows Packers History, Warts and All

The Green and Gold have an interesting history when it comes to breaking the rules.

Cliff Christl is such an amazing addition to Packers.com. His writing is simply can't-miss stuff each and every time.

His latest offering is no different, and it sheds light on something that certainly feels relevant to what is making headlines in the NFL these days.

Specifically, Christl tells of the time the Packers were kicked out of the league for cheating.

No, I'm not kidding.

The Packers were actually kicked out in January 1922 for using at least three players with college eligibility remaining under assumed names in a non-league game against Racine. The game was played Dec. 4, 1921, in Milwaukee and was billed as a battle for the state championship. It’s a long, involved story, but here’s a somewhat condensed version.

I highly recommend reading the entire story. It's truly fascinating.

Christl is a fantastic journalist, I always loved his coverage during his days at the Journtinel. He occasionally said (wrote) something I still quote in his answers to chat questioners who would write "What if..." questions:

"If worms had hips, they'd wear six shooters and shoot the birds from the trees."

Glad he's found a place at Packers.com, I missed him.
