Philadelphia Eagles wide out Kevin Curtis will miss up to eight weeks after undergoing surgery for a sports hernia he suffered during the Eagles preseason game against the Panthers. The Eagles have a very deep defensive line. The Packers have a very deep wide receiving corps.

I’m just saying…

The Bidding War Is On

According to a source quoted at the Green Bay Press Gazette.

A “bidding war” is going on between the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers to obtain the veteran quarterback, according to a source close to the situation. And that could be causing the hold-up.

Yes, Thompson is in heaven.

Jets Not Out Of It Yet

According  to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, reporting on ESPN Radio (how’s THAT for some corporate crossover):

Right now the Jets have a better deal on the table than the Buccaneers do…The deal the Jets are offering right now is so much sweeter than the deal the Buccaneers are offering.

And now word comes that Favre is willing to speak to the Jets. Per the Sporting News:

According to Brett Favre’s agent, Favre is willing to play for either the Jets or the Buccaneers, and he hopes a trade is completed by Thursday at the latest.

Put those two together and there’s a whole lotta ball game left.

(What, the SaveBrett.net source wasn’t rock solid? I am shocked…)

Murphy and Thompson At Chez Favre

Apparently, Mark Murphy and Ted Thompson just spent an hour at the Favre’s house. Here’s hoping the conversation went something like this:

Brett Favre: What the hell is he doing here? (nodding at Thompson)

Mark Murphy: He’s my wingman. Covering the door an whatnot, in case Bus Cook is hiding in a corner. Look, one more chance. 25 mil over ten years to stay retired. Take it or leave it.

Deanna Favre: Kiss our collective ass Murphy. Brett’s gonna play this year weather you want him to or not.

MM: Ok, ok. Just had to try one last time. Ted?

Ted Thompson: Brett, you’ve been traded to Tampa Bay, and you are officially not our problem any more.

MM: Here are some nice brochures of the Tampa area. Hear it’s really nice this time of year. See ya!

Exit Murphy and Thompson, stage left.

The Beginning of ‘The Big Thaw’?

It would seem Favre is at least considering the Jets as a possible destination. There’s no way the Packers, Jets and Bus Cook would be in “serious talks” unless Favre had not at least told Cook he would be willing to explore the option. It has been reported that the Jets had spoken to Cook earlier this week, but I have yet to see anything anywhere that says either Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum or Head Coach Eric Mangini have spoken with Favre.

One thing to note - I have no doubt whatsoever that the Packers have leaked both this and the report they were considering trading Favre to a NFC North team on purpose so as to drive up Favre’s value…

Favre Staying Away…For Now

Peter King has the scoop over at SI.com.

With Fave promising to stay away from camp until Thompson can “work something out” and with Favre and Commissioner Goodell suddenly becoming phone buddies AND with reports that the Jets are all but out of the picture, it’s obvious how this plays out. And the Packers are the ones who are going to get screwed.

No doubt the Packers asking price of a 1st rounder is too high for the Buccaneers. The Commissioner will step in and tell the Packers to accept whatever the Bucs are willing to give up, which could be as low as a third round pick. The Packers will be left with the option of trading Favre for basically nothing, giving him an outright release, or letting him come to camp and allow the media circus that would no doubt ensue to tear apart the team.

I’m disliking Favre more and more…
