Let’s be honest here. Mike Stock did not just up and decide “You know what? It’s time for me to enjoy my golden years.” No doubt McCarthy, and perhaps Thompson, made it clear to Stock that he was not going to be back and gave him the option of retirement. It happens all the time in business (indeed, it happened in my office just this past month)
In all honesty, I never thought Stock was that horrible. Sure his coverage units were less than desirable, especially toward the end of the year, but he was also using some less-than-ideal personnel the last month of the season. ( Jermichael Finley on kick coverage is a huge joke) not to mention the fact that he was hamstrung by a General Manager that cut the best player on all his squads to make room for a linebacker that almost never played from scrimmage and was also pretty terrible on teams.
And whither Bob Sanders? Inquiring Cheeseheads want to know…
