Woodson Waived Off Bush

Just love this, from the Green Bay Press Gazette:

“No. 21 (Charles Woodson) stayed on the field and rather than go out there and have an argument because the clock was ticking, 21 said he’s going to stay and go try to get it because he’s been a field-goal blocker in the past,” Stock said. “So he just said he would take his rep.”

When asked if Woodson has that authority, Stock said: “Well what are you going to do? The clock’s running. You can’t go out there and argue.”

However, there was time to get Bush onto the field if the Packers wanted to because McCarthy called a timeout in an effort to ice Bironas.

“He wanted to stay and do the job,” Stock said of Woodson.

Now if only Woodson could waive him off the final 53…

A Note About Abdul Hodge

I have read about a hundred blog posts/comments decrying the release of Abdul Hodge. I am really mystified at what these people don’t understand.

  • Hodge only played the middle linebacker spot.
  • Desmond Bishop outplayed him in camp and preseason
  • He was fair on special teams, when he played there at all

Throw in the fact that Tracy White can play either outside LB position and is a monster on special teams, and it’s a no-brainer. Unless of course people wanted to keep three middle linebackers?

Now, as for all the people who are flabbergasted at the fact that Jarrett Bush still has a roster spot, well, I am one hundred percent with you on that one. I am dumbfounded.

I Go Away For One Week…

… and all hell breaks loose.

First of all, big thanks to Corey for keeping up the blog in my absence. Great work, as always.

Secondly, here it is, August 30th, and Brett Favre is still speaking as if it’s July 30th. (The specter of Favre-as-the-ex-girlfriend-who-just-can’t-let-it-go rears its ugly head…) In two separate accounts, Favre recreates, almost word for word, conversations he’s had with various members of the national media for staff members of the NY Post and the New York Daily News. All while having never, not once, granted an interview with either the Green Bay Press Gazette or the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Make of that what you will.

Finally, I’ll have much to say about the final roster cuts that were announced moments ago. Needless to say, the fact that Mornecy is gone and Bush still has a job is a joke.

Welcome back indeed…

Accountability

Mike McCarthy has talked a lot about ‘availability and accountability’ and the need for his players to be those very things - available (ie not hurt all the time) and accountable (ie if you screw up you will not play/be part of the team)

So it is more than a little surprising that Jarrett Bush, a man who the entire world of football fandom would tell you gave the Packers just about the worst performance in a defensive backfield since the glory days of Ahmad Carroll this past Saturday, was not only still in the dime package in practice this week, but was the nickel back when Al Harris sat out to rest his ailing back.

So what McCarthy is telling us is that if you get burned repeatedly by second and third string wide receivers, and not just in one preseason game, but repeatedly over the course of your two years in the NFL, you will still keep your job from scrimmage because of your value on special teams? I mean, that’s it. That’s the only way that makes sense. And even that doesn’t really make sense. Not unless you’re a crazy person. And let’s face it - McCarthy was party to getting rid of a legendary quarterback - so perhaps that is the case…

Because Jarrett Bush is awful. Just plain awful. Corey tried to back up McCarthy last year when McCarthy explained that every NFL team goes after the third corner, and that went doubly so for the Packers because of the strength of their starters. And to some extent, that’s true. But teams are specifically finding Bush, not a position. Sanders moves Woodson inside to the slot on third down, leaving Bush on the outside, exposed to the onslaught that is sure to come once the quarterback finds the welcoming numbers 2 and 4 on his jersey.

It took Carroll one truly horrible game for Thompson to cut him, a game the Packers were still in at half-time and that was blown open in the second half by the Eagles when Carroll couldn’t cover any receiver to save his life. A good part of that loss was directly attributed to Carroll. The Packers can not afford a repeat with Bush this year in a season where wins will be much harder to come by than a year ago.

That’s an anonymous scout’s summation of Jarrett Bush.

People want to hang Ted Thompson in efigy over the whole Favre thing. Nonsense. But if Jarret Bush is on the final 53 man roster, I’ll be joining the torch-and-pitchfork crowd over at 1265 Lombardi.

Should be fun times over at Bush’s blog this week.

Is He Really Going To Talk Football?

Yes, yes I am.

Just a brief word about the Packers third round pick second round pick (thanks to commenter Madison Dave for pointing out my error) Patrick Lee after observing him on Family Night.

This kid is the real deal.

Will he make mistakes? Yes. Will he be Deion in his prime? No. But his likley addition to the dime (I see him taking Bush’s spot in the first month of the season, if he hasn’t by the end of training camp) will help solve a lot of the problems the defense had with getting off the field on third down late in the year.

Which is only half as amusing as a comment on Bush’s post by one HayatoKanzaki1, who says:

Hey man. You seem like a cool dude. Hurry up and improve and at least be the starting 3. I want to see you play more!

It’s the ‘Hurry up and improve’ part that has had me chuckling all morning…

How did I miss this? (Thanks Corey…) What a pure, unfiltered source of hilarity, the (surely unintentional)  comedy stylings of Jarrett Bush, cornerback for the Green Bay Packers.

So today, Bush treats us to the following:

So the media is mixing up some of the distractions of saying that us cornerbacks…Me, Tramon Williams, and Will Blackmon need to pick it up or were saying that we were struggling. So i dont know what they are trying to stir up..but that ok if they draft high for a corner i will beat that corner out…doesn’t matter who it is

Hey. Jarrett. The media isn’t “mixing up”. You were struggling at the end of the year. And next time, fall on the damn ball.
