Indoor/Outdoor

One storyline that was beaten to death after the second Bears game (including here at CheeseheadTv and on our podcast) was the fact that the Packers spent the week indoors, while Lovie Smith had the Bears practicing outside. Well, it seems Tom Coughlin was paying attention, because the Giants spent a second day today practicing outside.

Now, I don’t want to be an alarmist. It’s nowhere near as cold here today as it will be in Green Bay on Sunday night. I doubt the Giants gain any real advantage by practicing outdoors. But they are getting their bodies ready to play football outside in the cold. I think McCarthy is taking a monster of a chance that his guys will be ready to play through the elements and be able to focus on the job at hand having not spent one moment playing football outside the comfy confines of the Don Hutson center all week.

It’s simple really. If the Packers win, Mike’s a genius. If they lose, you can bet that the weather, and the fact that the Giants handled it and the Packers didn’t, will be a major topic for days, if not months, to come.

The Will Blackmon Mystery

Depending on whom you believe, Will Blackmon is a lock to play on Sunday, or he has a very noticeable limp and will be monitored closely all week.

Frankly, at this point, I don’t really care. Would he help in the return game? Possibly. I don’t mind having Williams returning punts. Not to mention the fact I have a hard time thinking McCarthy would use Blackmon in the nickel or dime packages. He’s a great athlete, but at this point he’s missed so much time, I don’t think throwing him back into the fray on Championship weekend is the best idea…
