Living Legend In the House

Mrs. PackerAaron surprised me yesterday when she presented me with two tickets (and a VIP Parking pass) for tonight’s Jets-Redskins game. Needless to say, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I will, of course, be cheering for Brett and cursing his name. As a result, I won’t be able to watch tonight’s Packers’ game live. I will, however, catch a repeat of it on NFL Network tomorrow afternoon, so I’ll have thoughts and analysis for you after that viewing.

Clowney!

I’m sure no one cares, but David Clowney, the Packers’ fifth round pick from last year who was cut by the Pack at the end of training camp and picked up by the Jets (and by the way David - maybe now is a good time to switch your official website so that it no longer shows you in a Green Bay uniform with Lambeau Field in the background. Just a hunch…), and who was teased mercifully by Corey and I in our podcasts, reeled in not one but two 70 yard touchdowns last night against the Browns.

Just wanted to draw attention to Clowney’s good play so as to try to make some type of karmic amends…

Mrs. PackerAaron Weighs In

My wife, also known around these parts as Senior Communications Director for Cheesehead TV, has once again taken time out of her insane schedule to opine on Mr. Favre. (You may recall her letter to Brett after his retirement, the only piece of writing on this site that has ever generated a reprint request. Guess it helps that she can actually, you know, write.)

Well, after getting last nights news (she awoke around 1:45 AM to find me in the living room hunkered over the computer reading anything and everything about it) she has written about her feelings regarding Mr. Favre’s latest adventures in a perfectly-titled post: “Oh Brett” on her blog Astoria Mama.

Conditional Terms

Laid out over at ESPN.com, via NFL Network:

…if Favre takes 50 percent of total snaps with the Jets in 2008, the fourth rounder becomes a third-round pick. If he gets 70 percent of the snaps and the Jets make the playoffs, it becomes a second-round pick; and if he gets 80 percent of snaps and the Jets make the Super Bowl, it becomes a first-round pick.

So it would seem, barring a re-retirement or a snap of ‘The Streak’ (hey - crazier things have happened this offseason…) the Packers will be getting at least a third round pick.

UPDATED: Adam Schefter reports that if the Jets were to turn around and trade Favre to the Vikings, they would send their next three first round picks to the Packers.

The Bidding War Is On

According to a source quoted at the Green Bay Press Gazette.

A “bidding war” is going on between the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers to obtain the veteran quarterback, according to a source close to the situation. And that could be causing the hold-up.

Yes, Thompson is in heaven.
