While Ted Thompson might feel pressured to make a trip to every Packer fan's house this Christmas to explain why he's not playing Aaron Rodgers today, it's nothing compared to the pressure felt by Mike Shanahan and Robert Griffin III.
It's been 21 years, 1 month, and 2 weeks since a Packers' backup quarterback has made a meaningful start. Ted Thompson has rolled the dice for years that that streak would continue indefinitely. Today, the Pack will start a washed-up veteran with no training camp experience and Thompson has no one to blame but himself.
No matter the amount of training, fines, penalties, and warnings you give grown world-class athletes to be careful when they tackle, players are still going to get hurt. It's time to focus on where the real changes can be made to insure player safety.
