Casey Hayward Practices Despite Being Ruled Out

Casey Hayward Practices Despite Being Ruled Out

An odd scene unfolded at Green Bay Packers practice when cornerback Casey Hayward took part in Thursday's session despite being ruled out for Sunday's game, and in pads nonetheless.

Hayward is dealing with a hamstring injury originally pulled before the start of training camp and then aggravated during the preseason.

On Wednesday, head coach Mike McCarthy refused to put a timeline on Hayward's return, saying only that they would have a better idea on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

The Packers take on the Lions this weekend and will have to do so with a combination of Tramon Williams, Micah Hyde and perhaps Jarrett Bush as a slot cornerback.

Other than Hayward, the only other notable development was that linebacker Clay Matthews was also said by beat reporters to have practiced in pads as well.

Matthews was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice as he comes back from a hamstring pull of his own suffered in the Packers last game during Week 3 in Cincinnati.

Otherwise everything else was status quo as it was during the previous day's practice.

Even if he doesn't play, it's at least major progress!

I like that they are being very cautious with this, but his injury must have been far more serious than they said. it's the Lions, hold him out one more week.

Agree. Truth is that Hayward playing in that Seattle game was probably a week too early. I'm with you - let him rest it up. I will say that this week it may be fine not to have Hayward since Burleson decided pizza is more important than football

Josh Freeman released by TB. I would sign him in a heartbeat to come in, even if he might not be much help till later in the year. He's only 25 and very talented. IMO he is in dire need of some good QB coaching and Van Pelt actually coached him a little early in his career. Now that would be a terrific backup later in the year and going into the next couple years while McCarthy and Co work w/ him!

Wisconsin doesn't grow the finest Cheeba. Freeman won't be down for that.

Just a quick drive to Canada, and they have plenty.

Haha noted.

How do I get to this... Canada you speak of?

" Canada huh? ...almost made it" .

Maybe one of my favorite movies of all time.

This is shaping up to be just a weird ass season. I've got questions about the coaches, training staff, talent overall (what else is new?) but I have a hunch in the end we win the division and who knows...

I don't like him practicing. The practice in pads earlier this season was bad for a few hammies.

AHHHHHH, you said "hammy"! put a dollar in the swear jar.

murphy's picture

I think you mean "tear jar".

Why practice if you aren't going to play? Sounds too risky to me. If you're gonna play practice if you aren't gonna play rest.....duh?

I'm glad Burnett will be back this week. I wonder if they'll give some snaps to Banjo with Burnett at his side. Another thought,I'd rather see Bush in at SS than Jennings (just as long as it's not a man-coverage assignment). Hyde and House has another week to show something.

I think this news is encouraging. To see a guy starting to get back in shape after so long is really positive. I also saw that Finley, Franklin, Burnett and Kuhn had a full practice. Have we turned a corner here?

If we don't see the usual aggressively stupid comments the next time a Packer hammy goes twang, we will have turned a corner.
