Buck Blows It
By PackerAaron
What started as a promising inquiry into Favre's mindset as he makes his way into a Vikings uniform turned into a parade of softball questions from Joe Buck during his first live program for HBO. Buck, who was just about obligated to bring up what Green Bay fans might be feeling if and when Favre comes into Lambeau wearing a Vikings uniform, let Favre slide with some throwaway answer about Lombardi ending his career with the Washington Redskins. It would have been nice to get any kind of push back from Buck on this, especially since this is most likely the topic most people tuned in for, Packer fan or no. Favre has admitted wanting to 'stick it to Ted' - how could Buck not bring up Thompson and his responsibility for Favre being where he is today? And how could he not point out that Lombardi was a) a million times more important to the Packers than Favre could have ever been and b) that Lombardi did not go back into coaching, much less for a hated division rival, to 'stick it to' any member of the organization.
It was a great 'get' for Buck. But that's where the 'great' part of the night ended.

I used to care. Now I dont. Let the baby take his ball and play with the Queens. Their loss.

agreed. I thought it was lame. My favorite part is Favre in the montage..hmmm I wonder what audio I will be pulling this week?

How do you think he got this "get". Favre very likely knew that like Gretta it would be a softball batting practice.
June 15, 2009 at 08:48 pm
I guess I missed the part thanking the Packer fans for being loyal to him all those years. Going back to sount the number of times he said "I".

I've always wondered if Brett Favre didn't live in some podunk part of Mississippi that maybe he wouldn't be so bored; resulting in him wanting to play again. Maybe he should move somewhere more exciting.
This interview really revealed nothing, I guess just confirming everything we already knew.

The lame Lombardi Redskins analogy sent me over the edge. I feel like my best friend officially told me that he is screwing my evil ex gfriend. How about Packers using "we" when talking about the Vikings. UGH!

Still waiting until #4 signs before I comment.

About Joe Buck - the 3rd segment with the comedians was a DISASTER. What was Buck after with that segment? Why invite them to begin with? We might have seen the first and last show. Costas is probably in the bathroom throwing up as I type this

Plan and simple, if Greenbay and TT would have let Favre come back, he would still be the QB for the packers. They didn't want him, so all you guys don't want him to play anywhere else?? It makes no sense to me. You dislike him now because he is not living like you, his former fans, want him to. You wanted him to go away quietly even though he was not treated with respect. I love the Packers but I am still frustrated with how they handled this situation. I am happy he played last year and will be when he plays this year. I will cheer for him to win. I will also cheer for the Pack to win. But come on, he gave 16 years of his life to our team, he brought it back to life, go back to the pre-92 days and see how bad the Packers stunk.
Get over your ideal image of him. He is a football player, plan and simple. Let him play in peace.

Artie Lange should have interviewed Brett Favre.

Artie will not be asked back at all. He hijacked the show and it was very uncomfortable.

I stopped buying pack geer 3yrs before the favre mess. I figured if management would'nt spend money on reloading than I would not spend any of mine on them.. Football is the greatest of all sports but is still just a game , I can take what i call a vacation from the pack for a few yrs and cheer for any team that takes the man that put greenbay back on top. even its the hated viks. Go BRETT Go

Brett who?
Its a great chance for him to ruin another team (JETS) that have a promising season in front of them.
I am just so happy the circus is moving across the Mississippi!
It should be so fun to watch that media savvy Guy Coach Childish deal with the plethora of Microphones...oh yeah, this should be great for team chemistry...as soon as the final verdict comes down on the Williams' suspensions there will be only 200 reporters there taking the position that Favre must now save them in their first 4 games to make up for the loss of the defensive middle.
I just honestly cannot wait. Having seen here what it did to the Jets in this big market...I cannot wait to see the lights wilt the Vikings.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Brett Favre.
This will be the most entertaining division and season ever.
THANK YOU BRETT FAVRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way, 17 TDs, 23 picks, 3450 yds and miss the playoffs for you!

ricgrish, you're what's called a "fair weather fan." True fans, don't give up on a team no matter what, and they definitely don't take a vacation to cheer for another team.

Dan Patrick is the only guy that has the balls to ask the tough questions. I like his interviews.

ricgrish - Love that argument. So Pickett, Woodson, Driver (twice and now maybe a third time), Wells, Rodgers, their contracts mean nothing to you? The Pack spends money - on its own players. And they will continue to this season when they lock up Jennings and perhaps Kampman and Collins. What is so hard for people to understand about that? I would MUCH rather Thompson spend money on guys he knows work on this team than overspend for guys who did or did not work on OTHER teams and who would, at best, be a 50-50 proposition on THIS team. I'll go with the known commodity, thank you very much.

Also, would LOVE to hear who in free agency the past several years you think the Packers should have gone after other than the guys they got. In reality, list is very, very short but for some reason I feel you have a list that is approaching Schindler's in terms of length...

President Raygun: "ricgrish, you’re what’s called a “fair weather fan.” True fans, don’t give up on a team no matter what, and they definitely don’t take a vacation to cheer for another team."
EXACTLY.
-
BTW, Aaron, I don't blame Buck. The only way Favre would do this was if he knew what would be asked, and knew what would be not. I think Joe Buck didn't have a chance, if he wanted Brat on the show. That just shows you how much a primadonna he really is...

Mac G - "I feel like my best friend officially told me that he is screwing my evil ex gfriend." Having suffered through a situation similar to this, I can tell you unequivocally that this analogy is perfect.
---
Ryan - "They didn’t want him, so all you guys don’t want him to play anywhere else?" This is a complete misrepresentation of the facts. This man "retired," twice now, and both times has tried to finagle his way into playing for the Vikings. He could have played this year for the Jets, if it was just about playing football, but he "retired" and asked for his release. In all honesty, I'd be okay with him playing for any NFL team, with the exceptions of the Vikings, Bears & Cowboys. I cheered for him with the Jets but I will root even harder against the Vikings if he goes there.
---
PackersRS - Correct me if I'm wrong, but that show was live. Buck could have asked any questions he wanted once Favre was on the stage.

You know, I've been thinking. Wouldn't it have been a far better move for Favre to compare himself to Curly Lambeau than Vince Lombardi. Lambeau at first was loved by everyone, and rightfully so. Over time, though, he came to clash with the Packers Board of Directors. If memory serves me correctly, I believe he wanted to move the team to Chicago. After he left the team, he went to the Chicago Cardinals, who, although I can't say for certain, I imagine would have been pretty decent rivals, given their proximity. He refused to have anything to do with the Packers, even going so far as to refuse to allow the team to name their newly built stadium after him. Of course, once he passed, they named it after him anyway, but that's another story.

I look at it like this Lets say you love your job, they bring in a new boss lets say his name saddam h, he pretty much does nothan (brings in justan harrel) Dont you think you whould lose the fire for that job and might even serch for a new job. If you say no your full of ----.
someone asked to see my list of peaple i would have signed, i need only one for now RANDY. at the time we needed him
June 17, 2009 at 08:00 am
ricgrish If Thompson brought nobody to the team, I'd agree. But he brought in a bunch of players, good ones at that. If you want to see the counter to your argument, read Aaron's above. But if you want to play analogies, I think this one is a bit more accurate:
---
You're the star salesman at your company, which is in disarray after poor leadership has fixed the books to make everything look great for a few years while things were going terribly wrong underneath the surface. Once this comes to a head, the shareholders get rid of the CEO and bring in a new one. This new CEO goes through a series of cost cutting measures that force the company to more accurately reflect what is actually going on, but make the company stronger in the process. The company then goes on to, in two years, become one of the strongest in your industry, and all you do is complain because he didn't listen to you. He didn't meet your every demand, and even brought in a new up and coming salesman to take over your district when you're done. But the company is considerably stronger than when he got there.
---
If you start searching for another job then you're just a jackass. All of the evidence indicates that Favre never really wanted to come back to the Packers after he retired. He wanted to move on to the Vikings because he didn't feel loved. Well I've got news for you, Brett. Nobody loved the game ending interception you through in OT in the NFC Championship game. A ball that even I can see should never have been thrown.
---
I'm tired of hearing that Favre did this and Favre did that for the team and Big Old Mean Ted Thompson didn't want Favre no more. The dude's 40 years old. I stopped feeling that need to have people tell me they love me when I was about 7.
June 17, 2009 at 10:09 am
Well, for 10 games last year we heard how this 40 yr old could be MVP right behind Kurt Warner. If a QB is better than half the starters out there than I don't see any reason to give up on him.
It will all play out and then we will here how the new defence just needs time.. what was the packs record last year? With an easy schedule this year, lets wait and see this years record. For now the GB emblem that is on my chimney (that actually has a spot light on it) will stay unlit until TT is gone or If Justan Harrel makes MVP on the pack defence

Jayme, I know it was a live show. But if he pulled that out, how many guests he would get again? He doesn't have the kind of credibility others like David Lettermann have. He asks though questions, Favre tries to dodge them, it becomes awkward, and suddenly noone wants to come to that show anymore. It was the brightest night for their show, they couldn't screw it up...
