Brandon Jackson Agrees To Terms With The Cleveland Browns

The Packers second round pick in 2007, Jackson has signed a two year deal with the Browns.

From Adam Schefter:

Former Packers RB Brandon Jackson reaches agreement with the Browns on a 2-year, $4.5 million deal.

Jackson will be a nice compliment to the Browns' established starter Peyton Hillis. Browns head coach Pat Shurmur is installing a version of the West Coast Offense that will utilize Jackson's ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Also, with a young quarterback in Colt McCoy, Jackson's exceptional pass protection was no doubt intriguing to Browns' President Mike Holmgren.

The Packers will now most likely turn to 3rd round draft pick Alex Green to fill the vacated third down back role, though James Starks and Dimitri Nance could also see time in that capacity, not to mention fullback John Kuhn (if he resigns with the team) who Packers coach Mike McCarthy used extensively on third downs in the Packers' Super Bowl run.

keep the supplemental draft picks coming (hopefully anyway).

Perhaps, they'll use more tight-ends in back-field pass protection as they have an abundance of them now.

Ted did say this will be a different team. I will miss Jackson's pass blocking skills and he was really good on screen plays too.

Who's to say the Packers -didn't- match that offer?

It's entirely possible the Packers did, and Brandon Jackson decided he was better off taking the same contract on a team where he has a better chance of getting consistent playing time.

Let's face it, Grant/Starks/Green is probably a tougher hill to climb than just Peyton Hillis..

One last time:

"OH MY GOD HE'S TERRIBLE!"

We'll miss you, B-Jax.

Never dropped a pass, rarely fumbled, was turned into a lineman and had to bulk up out of pass protection need in 2009, and overall was a fine football player. Good luck, B-Jax.

Once again, there are no "terrible" football players in the NFL. None.

Ian is referencing a running gag I had going on Twitter this season. After Grant went down and Packer fans everywhere were set on trading for M Lynch, I kept telling everyone who would listen that Jackson would be fine. Many people disagreed. So every time he made a play, I would Tweet "OH MY GOD HE'S TERRIBLE"

Inside (Twitter) joke. ;)

Besides, Aaron made it abundantly clear that there is at least one "terrible" player in the league. Seattle's Tarvaris Jackson. He seemed pretty confident in saying that, too ;)

Jackson always reminded me a little of Rob Johnson. For some reason, people in charge thought he was suddenly going to not suck. I was okay with that, and was genuinely excited when either one started against the Packers. I knew we'd win. Rob Johnson was worse though. Much, much worse. Now THAT guy was terrible.

Thanks for bringing up Rob Johnson...in fact, the might have had the highest QB rating in his career in a game against the Pack in 2000 that I was in the stands for. I think Aaron was at that game, too...and Buffalo won and he had about a 120 QB rating. Ah, the Mike Sherman era...:(

Week Two of the 2000 season. I was indeed. Eric Moulds made an amazing, diving one-handed catch that day.
