Bedard: Bishop is better than Hawk
By coreyb
Great podcast episode of the Audible by our friends Sigmund Bloom and Cecil Lammey of Football Guys . We interviewed Sigmund after the draft to talk about his video analysis of Raji among other things.
Here is their interview with Greg Bedard from today. Good stuff. Tons of subjects- Rodgers, Finley, Barnett, Hawk, QB backups, 3-4 etc.. Greg also has some great analysis of the grey areas in the depth chart and where everyone fits when it's all said and done. My favorite soundbites:
- Bedard says of the Defense right now:
much further along with Capers than I thought they would be.
- on A.J. Hawk:
right now Desmond Bishop is better than A.J. Hawk ...you wonder how long it takes for the Packers to realize that and give in.

Pretty sure the Packers know it, but they are not going to marginalize a 5th overall pick for a guy who is having a great preseason. That may change a few games into the season if things continue as they are.

I went back to the film of the Bills game and saw AJ waddling after a tight end who blew by him with virtually no effort. Unless addressed, that will be an openents' O coordinators' dream come true.
How long did the Bears stick with Cade Mc Kown (sp ?) just because he was a 1st round pick? And what did that get them? The best player should be ion the field - Period. If Capers thinks it is AJ, fine. But his play, not his draft position should be the determinate. It's hard to say why he's better than Bishop in the pre-season. Interceptions, fumbles recovered, fumbles caused and coverage all go to Bishop.

It sounds like Bishop and Chillar will be in in the nickel. They will both get on the field this year...a lot.

Rotation of backers and shifting formations to suit the players' strengths? Get out of the Sanders mindset Packer fans!
