Bedard At the Senior Bowl

A couple good posts from Greg Bedard over at the JS Packer Blog about the goings-on at the Senior Bowl today. A few things I liked to read:

  1. Packers general manager Ted Thompson spent much of his time watching the defensive linemen during the North team practice.
  2. There’s a lot of good 3-4 size in that group, so Thompson’s interest isn’t surprising. Boston College DT B.J. Raji (6-2, 334) has been one of the most impressive players in the early going.

And a few things I didn’t:

  1. Amazingly, a lot of people hadn’t yet heard that Dom Capers was named the Packers’ defensive coordinator, including key NFC North figures. One high-ranking Minnesota Vikings official raised an eyebrow and then smiled widely. “Oh really?” he said. When told that Mike McCarthy said the Packers have the pieces to run the 3-4, his smile got wider.
  2. The feeling down here is there is no way Julius Peppers is leaving Carolina, not after they canned the defensive line coach yesterday.

  1. Yeah, that post referencing the Vikings irritated me.

Since when does any real Packer fan care what a “high-ranking” Viking official thinks. I usually dismiss them out of hand.

  2. PRC says:

So if you usually dismiss it out of hand why did it irritate you? ;)

Seriously, these are the same Vikings that felt like they were in good shape with Tavaris Jackson and Frerrotte at QB last season.

    Franklin,

Sounds like Bedard inherited some of the same sources (4 Anonymous Exec’s) McGinn used for his “Aaron Rodgers Survey” (the biggest pile of crap ever published in the MJS – and that’s saying alot). Why get real sources when it’s easier to make them up.

    Go get them DDD!

  4. Ha!

It irritated me that Bedard thought it was worth adding.

“One person who worked with McCarthy”
Really? Why don’t you just tell us what the groundscrew, janitorial staff, and random guy walking past your hotel think too.

Franklin – pretty sure that was a reference to one of the ex-Packer coaches he saw when he first got there…

  6. I know, I got that.

Why include it though? Think these guys are a little bitter?

Who cares what they think? They couldn’t run a 4-3 with 4-3 personnel. No imagination.

I’m so sick of these writers and their doom-and-gloom style. They are catering to a small, but very vocal (and annoying) group of Packer “fans”.

  7. Ron La Canne says:

Just heard Capers respond to a question by one of the Media about whether Kampman would be capable of playing in the 3-4. His answer: “Kampman is a very talented player, you adapt to take advantage of that talent”.

I’m liking this guy more and more. Apparently, the Viking Exec. didn’t realize that Capers is smart and not complete idiot like their Head Coach.

Thanks Rollo The Janitor for that insiders look into the goings on at the Senior Bowl.
He forgot to tell us “Miss Lippy`s car is Green”,

  9. Nick says:

He forgot to mention the part afterward when the high ranking Viking Exec was reminded who his head coach is and walked away with his head down. Apparently he sat in the corner of the room in a fetal position for the rest of the event.
