Maybe Slocum tried to tell Masthay to kick out of bounds, but got confused and told Crosby instead.

That's Mason's new speciality - the freebie 40 yarder.

Is Masthay on here because he kicked to Hester? I remember one not-so-good punt, but he had a couple boomers. The one that Hester scored on was actually a pretty good punt (Hester had to back up about 10 yards to get it).

I can't say what Slocum asked for, but in general, they don't want to kick the ball right down the middle of the field to a guy like Hester. You want to pin him near a sideline and narrow down the amount of field you want to cover.

My comments:
1. Tauscher and Clifton are all but done
2. Hawk sucks. gets blown up on almost every play
3. James Jones needs to sit at #5 option
4. DBs need better coaching on how not to assault a WR on each throw
5. Where was Jennings after his early TD?

hawk sucks?.. you obviously dont watch the game... he got pressure on the qb a few times helped cause the tramon williams sack... made a few tackles.. granted a lot were down the field but he played solid..
if you dont say chillar sucks.. and say hawk sucks.. your blind jennings dropped a deep pass.. thats where he was
james jones is an awesome WR... he fumbles sometimes.. lots of WR have that problem.. its correctable..
dbs are not really assaulting anyone.. there were 2 interference calls on a db... 1 on brandon chillar... 1 was on our rookie safety... the other on charles woodson... go ahead tell woodson he is playing bad.. and again.. chillar is the linebacker that sucked.. hawk was solid not great.

Peppers is a beast, even Sitton had a holding call trying to block that guy. The Bears moved him around all over the place. Clifton and Tauscher are showing their age, they are just trying to survive in the passing game and do nothing for our run game.

They didn't let this game slip, They Went out with to much confidence and played poor. They jumped up early in the half and got cocky. They have no discipline when they think they own a lesser team. They play awesome aginst great teams, and play like crap aginst bad teams because they go into the game thinking they've already won. The downfall of youth.

There's a difference though between thinking there bad and actually being bad. The Bills are Bad! A good example will be next week with the Lions. Everyone still thinks they're bad, but they've actually been looking good, and they should have won that game aginst the Bears who we just lost aginst. This Bears game is last years Tampa Bay Game.

So I'll say it - they got jobbed at the end of the game. How can you call pass interference on such an underthrown ball - Burnett has a right to maintain his position - he was looking back for the ball and Collins intercepts the ball. Give me a break. . .

Was I the only one shouting at my TV "LET THEM SCORE!!" when it was first and goal at the 7 with 1:44 left? You do the math and you could see with our timeout, that the Bears were in a position to get Gould the PAT with seconds remaining. And that, of course, is exactly what happened.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I would SO much rather be down 7 with 1:35ish left on the clock, 1 timeout and Aaron Rodgers running the show, than hoping Robbie Gould misses a PAT.

Add this crucial decision to the wasted challenge/timeout, and a team which showed about as much discipline as Lindsay Lohan on a Saturday night in Las Vegas--and you have what I would call the worst performance of Coach McCarthy's career.

And to Mr. Nagler, I was with you (and coach McCarthy) in believing that Brandon Jackson could be a suitable RB, but I am now willing to admit I was wrong. He is not. I still think he's a good football player, but he's not the guy who will bring us a championship. I know he went up against the toughest run D in the league, and I know our line got lit up last night, but in spite of that, Jackson was clearly off. Against the Bills he looked off. We need someone else back there.

I do think people are over-reacting to James Jones. The guy is a good football player who happened to make a very big mistake. We need him.

Other quick hit observations:
*Jennings should have reeled in that deep ball
*Best laugh I had all night was when Gruden used the word "simultaneously" and called attention to it.
*Chicago had an (uncalled) delay of game on the Woodson PI penalty
*Where was BJ Raji?

Well, it's time to exchange Bulaga for Clifton. If Lang is healthy he needs to start for Tauscher. Sooner the better. It will give the young tackles experience before the post season. This team will not go far in the post season with Tauscher and Clifton.

Cannot win the big games without having good special team play. If you are not going to replace Slocum as coach, bring in a consultant to help the guy...he needs the help desperately.

This week would be a great one in which to do it. The Lions don't present much defensively, and it would be great for Bulaga to gain experience against a great DE like Vanden Bosch.

Some of the points in the comments I fully agree with, others are overly emotional and completely reactionary. Frustrating game, no doubt.

I was fairly confident we knew what we had in Clifton and Tauscher, no surprise there. Considering the defense was playing two undrafted, FA rookies and a 3rd rookie at safety, on the road in Chicago no less, I was impressed (short handed as hell on the defensive line).

Personnel wise, my biggest disappointment/frustration is with Daryn Colledge. He hasn't been able to get to the 2nd level on running plays, gets stood up in general run-blocking and has mental gaffs every...single...game.

I understand coaches are likely sitting on Bulaga, knowing he's playing LT in short-order this year and they want him healthy. That being said, it's not even close in both run blocking and pass-pro:

Bulaga>Colledge Bulaga>Tauscher

Run game instantly improves, too bad we can't see it now.

Kuhn is a beast. He is not flashy, fast, but moves the pile forward and frustrates the defense. Cannot hand off to Jackson, falls down too easily. Passing to him in the flat worked well. Play to his strengths.

Almost 1/3rd of Rodgers yardage came from play-action passing because the Bears were totally selling out against the run. Play action was, with I believe one acception where Tauscher/Clifton allowed a jailbreak, phenomenal.

the frustrating things about this game are that

1. we thought our special teams had improved since last year. they looked very good in the first 2 games but looked like the ST unit from 2009 last night

and

2. we thought that this team had grown up a little and had "cleaned up" all of the penalties that we had in 2009.

i too am optimistic that last night was our "wake up call game". this team needs to forget about all of that superbowl BS and just get down to playing good solid football. i like ted thompson but some of this is on him too. this undisciplined play is something that happens with a young team. i think bringing in a proven, veteran running back who can hit the holes hard would be a good thing. jackson is a very good 3rd down back but it's painfully obvious that this guy is not a featured back.

let's kick some lion ass next week! GO PACK GO!!!!

I would have put Sitton in the ugly. From what I saw, the best OL on the team had a very bad game.

We are still a top football team. With all the injuries, record breaking penalties, essentially no running game and on the road, we still win the game if Jones' fumble goes out of bounds. It was that close and it should not have been. I know others will disagree but I would have to see this kind of result several more times before I panic

Collins should be in the bad. His on the field and off the field incidents are just plain inexcusable coming from a veteran in the NFL in 2010 with all the rules protecting players.

His body slamming thing (lack of a better description) after the whistle is just as stupid as Jolly's head butting incident. Big penalty resulting in double the yards gained.

Then after the game throwing something (to be determined) into the stands. Good thing DD was there to grab him and get him into the locker room.

The whole game just shows a lack of control by MM. IMO the Jolly incident last year was a coaching mistake by MM not yakking him from the game, stop that behavior then, and these stupid personnel foul penalties would not be a problem now.

This is a coaching problem with the personnel fouls, pass interference and holding is part of the game, but personnel fouls can be controlled.

Don't break 1955 team record for most penalties in a game and the outcome is different. This was something that could (and should) of been fixed with the right coaching. But Coaches/Players did not get a handle on this the entire game (18 penalties!!). Outplayed the Bears but gave it away. Sad.

Will this team EVER put up a complete game under the McCarthy regime?

The talent on this team is off the charts, on both sides of the ball.

But this team NEVER plays to it's expectations. Always something is lacking. First game it was the OL and Rodgers, then the D. Second game, again Rodgers, and the running game.

Now, Rodgers played out of his freaking mind, and so did the receivers (James Jones is hereby declared a fumbler, not a receiver.). But the ST was abysmal, the OL was atrocious, and the team's concentration in general was awful.

I have serious doubts that MM will ever get a full game out of his players. And, as talented as we are, we're gonna need a full game to win the SB.

I still feel like I need to puke in my mouth. So much ugly. Watch the replay of the blocked FG, Sitton got planted squarely on his ass. Just atrocious...2 dropped INTs coulda had Cutler going into his baby act, but we handed it to them with 30 yds off penalties. James Jones carrying the ball with the wrong arm.

Kudos to all of you -- your vision is 20/20. It's nice to come to a site where everybody isn't a homer. I love my Packers, but would like to see improvements, too.

Definitely an ugly game -- a panoply of errors. Some of it may be due to roster-churn/younger-team-in-the-league, as the cast of erring characters is often changing. Some of it is inexplicable -- veterans behaving badly. Some of it is bad coaching.
* McCarthy: please DON'T ever challenge a call again.
* Slocum: just quit, OK ?
* Campen: please follow Slocum.

I think McCarthy quits too early on the running game.
I think the running game problem stems from the Oline
I think Clifton has been toast for 2-3 years (he seems to get a free pass for pass blocking. Huh? Gotta run block too, buddy)
I think Colledge sucks, period. He's weak. He plays too upright, which means he's on his heels against guys that out-weigh him by 40 pounds. A recipe for epic fail. Watch the games in slow-mo and focus on him -- he can't block anybody 1on1.
Although Tauscher has always looked like a fat slob, he never played like one -- until this season. He's looked bad on many occasions this year.
Might as well try Bulaga/Lang/Wells/Sitton/Newhouse (I saw Newhouse in the KC game, and thought he was raw but a force -- once he engaged the defense, that Dline guy was usually neutralized)

Let's give up on these guys:
Brandon Jackson -- not a running back. Being good at blitz-pickup is not enough of a reason to stay on the team. It seems like every time he gets a handoff, he runs to a non-existent hole, stops and waits to be tackled.
Pat Lee -- don't think he wants to play. I've seen him loafing while covering gunners on ST. You waste-of-space/time, next stop for you is Lombardi Ave (as soon as Harris & Bigby are activated). Better hit the liquor store for some boxes, you punk.
Daryn Colledge -- see above (and take that ugly-ass body ink with you)

and as for these people, the classic line from "Office Space" applies (ie: "what would you say... ya do here?")
A.J. Hawk -- you get toooo much money for your contributions.
Quinn Johnson -- you don't do ST; you have NO rushes; you've caught ONE pass.
Jarius Wynn -- you get no push; you apply no pressure; you get locked-up and dance with guys 1on1.

Why does it seem that every year the Packers lose a game that make your eyeballs want to explode out of your head?
Last year to the Bucs (and the Vikings),
2008 to Tennessee.
2007 to the Giants.
2006 to the Rams. Let's just hope they've gotten it out of their 2010 system.

One question where is Donald Driver? How much better could that guy have played?? Seriously I think that was one of Donalds best performances. Sure he didnt break any but there were a few balls regular recievers would have dropped. Donald played well AND kept Collins out of the stands. That is a GOOD game and excellent post game.

okay... 1.. im tired of people saying hawk sucks.. WATHC THE GAME did he have a sack no.. but he did apply pressure and the past few games he has definitely shown an ability to apply pressure when capers dial up the right kind of pressure. he makes a few solid tackles.. he was not great on his pursuit but he did not play terrible it was a solid showing..
2. chillar looked atrocious.. yet some people are saying hawk is bad and chillar isnt??... seriously ridiculous..
3. james jones is a 3rd WR for a reason.. has a hard time holdin on to the ball.. very explosive.. but ball security is easily fixable. if the coaches focused on it.
4. the line got scared by peppers and started jumping they didnt want rodgers to get rattled.. they played bad.. MM should have made a substitution and let clifton and tauscher sit on the side for a while at least.. its just as much MMs fault as the lineman.
5. there were some bad calls on the packers.. but the majority of it was unexcuseable
6. MM literally is a joke if this happens agin this season i will want him fired cause the headcoaches job is challenges... and discipline to keep players from gettin penalties.. he fails at both.. we can rehire him as an OC
7. collins was frustrated and made a mistake.. happens.. just looks bad because of all the penalties goin on around him.
8. we dont really need depth at DL.. the players we have are enough. and are solid at DL they arent supposed to get pressure in a 3-4 and still get it..
9. people need to calm down.. we will recover and the division is still ours to lose..

that is all..

Another 'ugly:" The officiating. Yes, the Packers were sloppy, but 18 penalties to 2?? FOUR OLine holding calls? The stupid IG call on Rodgers and PI on Burnett were also suspect. Talk about a home field advantage.
