Andrew Quarless Reportedly Arrested In South Beach For Firing Gun

The Miami New Times reports the Packers tight end was arrested Saturday morning.

From the Miami New Times:

Quarless ended up in police custody after firing a gun twice into the ground, according to Miami Beach police.

Police say the pro football star got into a fight near 4th Street and Washington Avenue that led him firing his gun around 5:30 a.m.; Quarless allegedly tried to flee the scene but was apprehended by a pair of officers. He was charged with discharging a firearm in public.

Ernesto Rodriguez, a Miami Beach PD spokesman, confirmed the details of the arrest to New Times. More information should be available, he says, when he is cleared to release an incident report later today.

No statements have been made by either the Packers or Quarless yet, though you can expect some kind of perfunctory "We are gathering information" type missive from the team soon.

Quarless finished 2014 with 29 receptions for 323 yards and three touchdowns and had been the subject of some high praise from quarterback Aaron Rodgers earlier this offseason.

Needless to say, this latest episode is incredibly disappointing.

Quarless is an awful TE. They should have stuck Colt Lyerla, they would then have a legitimate TE.

They got one thing wrong right out of the gate. They called him a star. The stupidity is endless with a lot of these players.

I thought the same thing, but then, it is the Miami New Times -- that's the local Village Voice weekly like the Shepherd Express in Milwaukee: mostly known for progressive commentary, entertainment listings, and escort ads as opposed to actual hard news coverage.

I'm frankly surprised they even noticed this, unless they needed a lead-in to a gun control editorial.

He calls himself a member of the "upper echelon" of NFL TEs. He's just doing his best to fit in with that club. Now if only he was half as good a football player as Aaron Hernandez.

Also, 4th and Washington is right in the middle of where all the clubs are in South Beach. That has to be THE worst place to shoot a gun in the whole Miami-Dade area, if you are looking to get away with it, that is. He must have been drunk as hell.

"Police say the pro football star"

Whew, for a second I though we were talking about the Andrew Quarless that plays for the Packers.

It appears that the injury bug has been replaced by the stupidity and get arrested bug. At least he didn't hit anyone. We could be down another player for the season opener. Ridiculous! Thanks, Since '61

Simple explanation. Some people fire their guns in the air on New Years Eve. In celebration of the 4th, Quarless shot his into the ground. He's setting a new tradition.

Maybe it is a Florida thing. MM should have said don't go to Florida. Mmmm, 5:30 a.m. MM should encourage his players to be home by midnight.

Maybe all that land acquisition around Lambeau isn't for bars and ritzy hotels, but rather is for year-round player housing, complete with drivers (to avoid DUIs) and bodyguards with concealed carry licenses (to avoid gun charges and reduce fighting). I am still working how to make domestic violence issues less prevalent. Perhaps we will see off-season housing bonuses in player contracts for those who will live on-site year round.

Quarless apparently fired one shot into the sky. Has he heard of gravity? That bullet has to come down, and it might have hit something. The local report suggests that a witness said Quarless fired to establish his manhood and dominance. If so, I'd be okay with cutting him.

Cutting Quarless is a bit difficult given the lack of depth at TE. Should Richard Rodgers get nicked up, we might be looking at Perillo and Backman as our starting TEs for a time. Better have a new article on offensive wrinkles that don't call for TEs to block anyone, and maybe not catch passes much either.

Maybe he thinks this gets him number one spot on the roster. What is with these nut jobs, to me he was a guy and not the super star he thought he was.

He's a marginal player who was on his way out the door anyways, as this is the last year of his contract. He'll be relegated to a backup role behind Richard Rodgers going into the season, so we probably won't hear much more about him.

29 catches last season and 3 touch downs. Now that is a stellar resume for say a div III team player. SB contenders need more than this. This is one guy you don't have to cover, making easy for D's to concentrate on others. Dump this moron.

Have to be careful, wait for the details before condemning Quarless. The eyewitness could very well be one of the people involved in the altercation, and I'm sure the Miami police would love to nab a pro player. And it's probably not smart to go clubbing in Miami without a weapon, there's a lot of guns and whacked out people there

He hasnt been arrested yet for gun possession, concealed weapon etc, just firing it. What he did was still stupid. If you are worried brandish your gun and only use it if absolutely needed. I can agree though we dont have all the facts yet.

Thanks Steve, that's the logical response to my original comment. So far we've learned the "establish his manhood" comment did come from one the people involved, not some uninterested bystander. The only other facts so far are from the police report, which is naturally slanted against Quarless. Let's see what Quarless and his friend have to say before branding him a complete moron.

Time to dump this jerk. He could have seriously hurt someone with that bullet in the sky.
