Aaron Rodgers Wins At Life (Updated)

UPDATED:

Need  to pass along that, while every word below is true – it is, indeed, from 2009. Rodgers has not, as of yet, done any surprise Christmas gift giving to Boys and Girls Clubs or any other charitable organizations in 2010, though one could be coming in the near future for all I know.

Meaning, of course, I will have completely ruined the surprise.

Also meaning, of course, that Aaron Rodgers is now an even bigger fan of myself/CHTV. (sigh)

————————————————————————————–

I’ve heard from a bunch of people in and around the Green Bay area that this did indeed happen:

Apparently a friend has a friend who is a retired teacher and who is involved with the Boys & Girls Club.

Someone from the Packer organization called this guy at the Boys & Girls Club and told them to bring 75 kids from the Boys and Girls Club to the new bowling alley in Howard and they would get soda, pizza and free bowling.

They got a second call upping the amount of kids to 100.  When they all got there, there were about 15 Packers players there to visit and bowl with them.

When they were done, all the kids were each given $100 to go to Shopko for Christmas shopping, accompanied by the Packer players.

And it was all funded by Aaron Rodgers. There was no publicity, no television cameras. We are lucky to have him in Green Bay.

I can’t express how proud I am to have someone like this as the face of the Green Bay Packers.

  3. djprotege says:

This is one of the many reasons he belongs in Green bay

  4. JayDub says:

Aaron is hands down the best QB in the league…he is awesome on and off the field…Something like this comes from his heart, nobody told him he had to do this…he WANTED to and that means alot!!! GO PACK GO

  5. lmills says:

This is a great example for some of the younger players too. Talk about veteran leadership. This is an awesome story.

  6. Anita says:

He is indeed a special guy. Happy Birthday, Aaron!

  7. Kathy says:

I’ll add my sense of pride to the others here. No doubt there are other good men in the game, and some of them quietly do things like this. But this is OUR quarterback and gestures like this make it very easy for us to cheer for him.
The notion of “Packer People” that Thompson holds as a standard isn’t a joke, isn’t a myth. We do have men on our team that give back selflessly – Greg Jennings, James Jones, Clay Matthews, Charles Woodson, Nick Collins, Donald Driver, etc.
I wonder if another team is so stacked with so many true winners at life.

    Rodgers for President.

Wow…what a great thing to do.

  10. jdondlinger says:

That is just Aaron being Aaron. Great player, even greater person.

  11. [...] on the field. Now he’s making his mark in the community as well.   Aaron Nagler of Cheesehead TV came across this story that he aptly named, “Aaron Rodgers Wins At [...]

  12. djbonney138 says:

Any word on who the other players involved were? Just curious.

  13. Tony Wilson says:

    I want to hug him.

  14. D says:

    Kathy-

don’t forget Chmura, the Aunt Eater, Nick Barnett, Havner, Blair Kiel, Matthew Dorsett, Johnny Jolly, Randy Woodfield, Najeh Davenport, Eugene Robinson, Bill Maas, the Cruisin Chubby’s crew, Tyrone WIlliams…etc.

    • Aaron Nagler says:

I would only remind you that Davenport and Robinson’s transgressions happened when they were not members of the Packers. Oh, and Barnett threw a drink in a woman’s face. Hard core.

      • Oppy says:

        Aaron,
Mr. Barnett has been a little more hands on than just throwing a drink. And it’s been more than once.

Not saying he wasn’t provoked, but none the less.

    • Kathy says:

      D –

You wanna go back and read my comment again? I said specifically “Thompson’s Packer People”…and unless I’m strangely mistaken, many of those you mention never played under Thompson.
Also never said they were all saints…I listed guys that give back and wondered about the ratio of good guys on other teams. I also never said that the Packers were the only unselfish ones…
And I hasten to add Chmura was acquitted (PLEASE let’s not turn this into a debate about that), and the “Cruisin’ Chubby’s crew” ?? is you referring to Underwood who has not yet been charged with anything except poor judgement.

In the spirit of your post…way to denigrate what good men have done by bringing up (needlessly) those that have transgressed in the past several DECADES. Relatively small number when you put it in proper context.

Ten years ago or so, I used to coach basketball at the East Side Boys & Girls Club on University Ave. What most of those kids really needed most was a little positive attention and positive role models. It looks like our current QB is doing his best to provide both. He may not realize it, but he’s also showing those kids that you don’t do these type of things to be noticed, you do them because they’re the right things to do! Our former QB also worked with the Boys & Girls Clubs. But the difference is, anytime he showed up or did anything with the club, a camera crew from each of the local TV stations was sure to be there and the story was the lead video in sports…sometimes it led the whole newscast. I was always told that character was best defined by who you are when no one is looking. I also think this quote applies, “You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.” James D. Miles.

Does anyone know if medicine has already figured out a way that a male can carry a child?

  17. Killerpack70 says:

This is a great example of why we love our(Greenbay Packers). I wear my Green/Gold with pride in Tucson,AZ “GO Pack GO !!!”

  18. NickGBP says:

Yikes. You get linked by Mr King and your information was inaccurate? Not good.

  19. RockinRodgers says:

    Fail. Still a good story.

  20. Anita says:

Whoops. Man, you’re never gonna get him on the show, now! Unless, of course, he wants to come on to call you out they way he did to Kornheiser. Might be worth it.

  21. WoodyG says:

2009 …. 2010 …. Really don’t see what difference it makes ….. It still happened ….. I don’t remember hearing about it, until now ……

But, what do you expect from someone who thinks GB’s running game is “fine as is” …… LOL.

    • Aaron Nagler says:

I’ve said they can win with it – which they have seven times so far out eleven tries.

      • WoodyG says:

Winning 7 of 11 is fine but can they win 11 of 16 ? …… Crunching all the possible scenarios & 10-6 may make many PackFans very unhappy …. To see TB make the playoffs at 10-6 over the Pack would ruin my day big time ……

  22. MLecl0001 says:

Who cares if it was 2009 or 2010? I think the fact that if happened last year and is only coming to light now just underscores the fact he did it for the right reasons and not attention. And although we all know that CheeseheadTV is the center of the Packer universe, if Rodgers decides to do the same thing again this year that the kids would still be surprised. Or that Rodgers still couldnt pull of some surprise holiday charity event, or maybe pull off some other surprise charity event. I am sure there is probably a few charitable things Rodgers and other packers players are involved in that never really get known.
