45-Man Game-Day Roster Prediction Vs. Bears

Linebacker Brad Jones and cornerback Pat Lee are predicted to be inactive for the first time this season.

Below is the Packers entire roster. Players in bold text are those I predict to be inactive on Monday Night Football against the Chicago Bears:

  • QB: Aaron Rodgers, Matt Flynn
  • RB: Brandon Jackson, Dimitri Nance
  • FB: Korey Hall, John Kuhn, Quinn Johnson
  • WR: Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, James Jones, Jordy Nelson, Brett Swain
  • TE: Jermichael Finley, Donald Lee, Tom Crabtree, Andrew Quarless
  • OL: Chad Clifton, Mark Tauscher, Daryn Colledge, Josh Sitton, Scott Wells, Bryan Bulaga, Jason Spitz, T.J. Lang, Nick McDonald, Marshall Newhouse
  • DL: Cullen Jenkins, B.J. Raji, Ryan Pickett, Mike Neal, C.J. Wilson, Jarius Wynn
  • ILB: Nick Barnett, A.J. Hawk, Brandon Chillar, Desmond Bishop
  • OLB: Clay Matthews, Brad Jones, Brady Poppinga, Frank Zombo
  • CB: Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams, Jarrett Bush, Sam Shields, Pat Lee, Brandon Underwood
  • S: Nick Collins, Morgan Burnett, Derrick Martin, Charlie Peprah
  • ST: Mason Crosby, Brett Goode, Tim Masthay

Notes:

  • I'm expecting T.J. Lang to be active for the first time this season given the health issues to both Chad Clifton and Daryn Colledge.
  • Because Mike Neal had what's being described as a "setback," he'll probably sit out once again. C.J. Wilson and Jarius Wynn will both be active in his stead.
  • The injury to Brad Jones is potentially troubling. Jones has been surprisingly solid against the run and so is Brady Poppinga, but who's going to rush the passer? Frank Zombo?
  • By simply being what McCarthy would describe as "accountable and available," Frank Zombo is a big winner being active on game days.
  • If Charlie Peprah ends up not playing, look for Jarrett Bush and not Derrick Martin to be the third safety should anything happen to Nick Collins or Morgan Burnett. Now that Brandon Underwood is back, Bush's services aren't as necessary any longer.
  • As long as Underwood is active, it very well could mean Pat Lee is inactive for the first time this season.
  • Tough decisions will be made on fullback Korey Hall and tight end Tom Crabtree. They're both probable, but making them active could mean making Quinn Johnson and Andrew Quarless inactive, and they've both been 100% healthy.
  • As usual, Nick McDonald and Marshall Newhouse are obvious choice as game day inactives.

Did Brad Jones get hurt against the Bills?

Somehow I missed this development where he is a question mark for the bears game.

This is significant for our defense with Neal still out. Pass rush and collapsing the pocket will be key against the bears, A-rod and company maybe in for a shoot out, we win 47 to 43 in a spectacular Monday night performance.

Well, this could be an opportunity for Zombo to step up, I suppose. The guy has obviously shown flashes, but it's hard to know if his skill-set will allow him to be consistently good against the pass...

The Bears are down at left tackle - so a lot of guys could get a great opportunity this week.

Zombo and Peppers have the same number of sacks this season. Except Zombo's was against Michael Vick, the most difficult QB to bring down in the league.

I have been hearing rumors that Quarless will be on the active roster with Lee sitting this one out.

Any truth to this?

That stems from an article Bob McGinn wrote, dilligaff. Here's the link: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/103799424.html

Lang will sit again and continue to sit until he cracks the top 7 OLinemen. Quarless dresses over Lee. Hall sits; Johnson dresses.

Defense, you've got it 100%.

It will be interesting to watch our 2 rookies in the secondary tonight. IMO their success the first 2 games is directly related to the pressure the defensive line and OLBs have been getting on the QBs

With Brad Jones and Neal questionable and Pickett with that dreaded hamstring injury, the key players this game will be Wilson/Wynn and Brady P./Zombo for the defense.

A significant drop in play with those positions will expose our rookies, remember Bush has been playing in our secondary with no issues so far, IMO that is a direct relation to pressure we are getting on the QB.
